Why is the SEC so hard to coach and win in basketball?

The SEC seems like a death trap for good basketball coaches. Why can good coaches come into this league and not win consistently? Look at the current and past coaches for almost every team in the league with the exception of Florida and Kentucky and it is a continuous carousel of coaches that have had success outside of the SEC, but stop winning or struggle to field a consistent winner the moment they set foot in the SEC.

All this time I thought any coach could win big in the SEC, because it was not a good basketball conference. It could be that it is harder to win in the SEC than some people thought. Imagine that.

No kidding. One of these days, I hope that our fans will realize that consistently winning in the SEC in any of the major sports is a pretty significant achievement.

It is interesting, though, being that the fairly popular party line for years was that essentially any bum off the streets could show up and win 20-25 games, hang West division championship banners, and make it to the NCAA tournament. You didn't have to look any farther than the floundering programs of Arkansas, Auburn, and Ole Miss to realize that that wasn't the case, but logic be damned.

While I don't know if it's going to be Ray or not, a coach will pull us out of this mess at some point and when that happens, here's hoping that our fans learn to enjoy the ride.
