Blanco is ourspeed, energy guy.. that can lay the bunt down when needed or even make contact most of the time. McClouth is a drop an drive, pop up/strikeout machine!!! It makes no sense. These are reasons why i won't miss Bobby when he's gone! That along with his stubborness the last few years always bringing in that same reliever that wouldget his **** ripped.aka... ChrisReitsma.... this year it's Chavez! The guy has not had a 1, 2, 3 inningass year and most of the time gives up multiple runs.

Wags just blew his first save in forever. I completely agree on the Nate, Blanco issue though

Brandon Hicks already went back down, and Conrad is needed right now while Chipper is gimpy (again). There's no other position players with an option, and hard to send down a reliever when Venters will have to serve suspension time sometime this week. You can't keep McClouth in AAA any longer without the league office getting involved, he's been there on rehab from a concussion for over a month, it's getting suspicious. Hell, he said directly yesterday that he's felt fine for a while, he's just been working on his swing.

McClouth is coming up to see if he can at least hit well enough to be traded for something. For anything. Maybe swap for someone with a much bigger bad contract, but is actually somewhat productive. Mike Lowell maybe? They won't drop him for nothing with how much they owe him for next year, they'll at least wait and see if he can fix himself by ST next year. If he continues to suck, they might DFA him and hope he accepts a minor league assignment.

I think he will continue to suck. I read his quotes yesterday about his rehab. He talked about working on his swing, but never once said anything about uppercutting too much. I don't think he realizes yet he's not the power hitter he thinks he is.

Blanco will be back, at the latest in September. He had been forgotten, after failing to produce in several past chances, but he's played his way back into the mix for next year. I expect him and Schafer to compete for the job come ST.

and they have to pay that whether they cut him or not?

if he can hit .250, they can trade him. not for much, and they'll eat most of the salary, but it will be worth it. his results in AAA suggest it's at least possible.

a salary swap is a huge possibility. lots of teams have a $10M or so guy they would love to take McClouth for to get rid of. In effect, we'd be paying $4M for who we get (presumably worth $6 - $8M), while they'd be saving $4M to play McClouth. they would do that for a .250 CF with some power and good defense, but not for a .200 one. This is all about seeing if he can be that mediocre player again, not the horrible one he was to start the year. We all know now the all-star level was a fluke for him.

in other words, they hope to play him for a week or two and recoup maybe 10% of what they owe him. that's probably, and since that's over a million it makes sense. and if he has a hot stretch they'll get even more.
