and with Christmas and the bowl game and no more rumors flying, both sides aren't in a huge rush to get it finalized right now.

There is nothing so complex about a contract that it should take this long, unless one side is either delaying or being unreasonable. I think Mullen will be back next season, but this contact thing (or lack thereof), is troubling.

Maybe they are trying to time the announcement for the most publicty, and/or to go along with the new football complex official announcement, and possibly thisnew donation that might exist(or might be internet rumor).

Until then, I'm just chalking the silence up to timing preference and ironing out a few more details. I don't have any reason to assume incompetence on the AD yet - I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt for the time being. I'm sure we'll see something shortly after the bowl game heading into prime recruiting time.

Until then, we have a Stans to bash...

Slow Sunday?

It's a contract extension for a guy who has "Welcome To My State" Posted on the roads leading into Mississippi.

Let him and Strick take their time. Maybe they are trying to agree on the name of the next IceCream Flavor at the Dairy Bar.

No wait I have inside Information to ease the troubled water.

"everything is going OK and we won't hear anything until a week after the bowl game."

Got this from my Sister, who does Dan's Expense Reports. Our maid knows his maid and vverified that info. If my source comes out, I'll deny everything.

Sorry Sis...

that we wouldn't see anything on a new contract until after the new year?

At this point, with no other major job open, I'm not remotely worried. They'll get it done in due time.

Please tell me how many contract negotiations you have been in. Because I've been in a lot and they are all long and difficult. In this case the principal people aren't in any hurry and have other things to worry about as well. I think some of you believe we have this infinite number of people in the Athletic Department and whenever we want to do something new we just open the closet and pull out another person. We got a lot going on, contracts are a pain int he *** especially when you are doing what we are talking about which is way more than a normal coaching contract. I've spent a month fighting over a single phrase before and we agreed on all the big stuff. Good contracts are never easy.

So nothing to these contracts huh? Yeah not much to trying to raise millions for the football facility, stadium expansion, coaches salaries, and different incentives. There is no reason this can't be knocked out in one to two business days

I think Mullen has shown he wants to be here, and we've promised enough to have a basic agreement in place. But with all the buzz around Mullen and our program both he and the AD office has got to get as much money out of this as they possibly can. The leverage.....the possibility of him leaving.

Another reasonwould be timing the announcement around the bowl game for recruiting. And, why be in a hurry if they already have a basic agreement? The details of contract negotiations can take a long time (ie. lawyers).
