Alabama sucks. One of the reasons that they suck is that the officials always seem to be in their pockets.
One of the funniest Halloween costumes I saw this year was a simple referee suit with Alabama-logoed cash hanging out of the pockets. It was funny because it was true.
LSU got screwed this past week. They may not have won, but they should have had a chance, down 6 with 5:00+ to go, and at the 40-yard line, to at least try. Every team in the SEC has a history of playing Alabama with the officials determining the outcome. Florida fans will tell you about the 1992 SEC Championship game that they lost 28-21 in Birmingham, that led to Bama's last national title.
This one is going to be interactive. Let's talk about State. Let's re-live the horrible officiating that has doomed this series over the years. Hell, one of the worst officiated games in MSU history (I think on par with BYU and Houston) was the 2007 Alabama game. We won that game because John Parker Wilson was horrible, but Alabama had every opportunity (thanks to the refs) to win that one. 1996's 17-16 win was also poorly officiated - those games don't register on most fans as horrible officiated because we won.
Post your horrible officiated moments vs. Alabama. I'll go ahead and start with the #1 most horrible moment in Alabama-MSU officiating history.
1999: Undefeated Mississippi State at one-loss Alabama. Winner takes full control of the SEC West and likely the BCS bid, as this is a down year for the East. Alabama holds a slight lead in a defensive struggle when lightning strikes. State takes a Bama punt down to the Tide's 5-yard line or so. First and goal in the fourth quarter with a chance to take the lead. A flag appears 40 yards behind the returner. Its a hold, but the CBS national television cameras cannot find it. The official refuses to tell Sherrill who it was (which leads to heavy lobbying to the SEC the next year that all penalties should identify the player, like the NFL). The drive stalls and Bama adds a late touchdown to secure a 19-7 win.
