Because the new road is going right through the Gold Gate in order to save the Arboretum....like some fans want to happen ??
Sure, it needs even more upgrades than are already underway but it sure beats the box-like field house we'd end up with for a huge cost.
It's unique inside and out.

Now Milan Puskar Stadium on the other hand needs to go
With all of the upgrades, Why would Milan Puskar need to go? It's easily expandable. Parking? Use eminent domain and expand the property.
Hmm where to start. These are just my opinionWith all of the upgrades, Why would Milan Puskar need to go? It's easily expandable. Parking? Use eminent domain and expand the property.

MPS is an outdated piece of crap that can't be saved by expanding the concourses a few feet. I have seen better looking press boxes at high schools. The only way to make things better bring down the east and west concourses and start from scratch and greatly expand the footprint of the stadium. Build a brand new expanded press box and associated, sky luxury boxes The problem with that is you can't go any further toward the law hill without the entire hill being removed.
I totally get it, if only I had won that 1.5 billion dollar lottery. I doubt I will see a new stadium in my life time, unless the hospital wants to pay a ton of money to take the location overI understand your viewpoint, but at today's prices it would cost at least $500 million to do it right. Some big time donors would have to step up. Where would you build it? I'm picturing Boone Pickens Stadium as what you may have in mind, would that be close?
It's made of concrete, which is so 70's. Need a modern building to draw in recruits.
Yes. I like it, however, it feels like when you walk in that you are in a basement. Just not an atmosphere for the modern times. But, it's not bad.
WVU Hospitals does NOT want to expand towards the stadium. WVU Hospitals is in fact building a number of clinics and facilities across Mon County and surrounding areas for the express purpose of decentralizing its various services. The biggest issue for the present stadium is that it sits on ground that Ruby wants.
You are correct about entering the stadium, and plans to modernize the front will be a plus. If done correctly, rebuilding the pressbox with Luxury sky boxes that expand the length of the filed would help.A ton of money has been and is being spent to bring everything that affects the players up to very nice standards, including the field itself. Concrete can always be covered with a facade, as Boone Pickens was. Pressboxes can be redesigned and built. The stadium seating is expandable if it becomes necessary. I do like that when you enter the stadium you're halfway, going up or down. Lane Stadium at VT is horrible. I'm on the side of waiting to see what it looks like when current renovations are finished.
Some valid points. However as stated, you can't renovate the press box, it needs torn down and rebuilt with added sky boxes. The high school look and size of the press box is one of the reason the stadium looks drab. With over $100 million being spent on the coliseum and stadium, I do not understand all of the hate being expressed toward them. In two years, all of the current renovations, expansions and improvements will be finished. Why not identify further realistic needs that can form a consensus and make further improvements where needed? If the stadium needs a new pressbox, build it. If the current one simply needs remodeled, do it.
The current facilities at WVU have a very appealing shape and outline. Refine it, don't tear it down. If it were ever needed, Milan Puskar could seat 75,000.

Just curious, is this an opinion, or are you on the Hospital board and know for a fact, they don't want to expand toward the stadium?WVU Hospitals does NOT want to expand towards the stadium. The changes to cover up the battle ship grey walls surrounding the filed was like putting lipstick on a pig. Lips are different but it still looks like a pig.
I am not smart enough to figure out what needs to happen to make it better, but I hope something is done.
Boone Pickens Stadium was built in 1920. The 'lipstick' looks good! It seats 60,000

It does look great.
It had an upgrade around 2003 for 260 million. In the construction world of finances that would be around 500 million today. Really...at the time they could have built a new stadium. Our stadium doesn't have the character of theirs so endlessly putting lipstick on it might not be the best what to go.
Point taken.
They actually did build a new stadium.
------
I guess that point wasn't expressed very well in my post.
Do you really call this 'character? The place was a dump.
[When was that picture taken, because it is not the stadium before recent construction. What is there and what they have now are two different stadiums. The seating has been completely redone going from 1 tier to 3. I could live with that change, but again they basically took down what was there and built it brand new. That is NOT putting lipstick on a pig, like WVU is doing.![]()
I have to say it is not technically the same stadium, but a rebuilt stadium in the same location. The seating went from 1 large tier on both sides, to a reduced main tier, with two more above. Except for maybe a few foundation pillars in the ground, you would be hard pressed to find anything left from the old stadium. It's technically the same stadium, but they 'virtually' built a new stadium in the same spot. Can you imagine those steel beams supporting the decks? At least Puskar has a concrete base to build onto. The protruding concession areas actually give a creative architect room as well as a solid base to work with. I would love to see renderings of what could be done. Regardless, I think we agree the pressbox needs to be replaced when current renovations are finished.
who said anything about replacing Coliseum? With the new upgrades taking place soon, they will only need to keep it fresh to have it relevant for years to come.

What is a billion $$ when we are going to make all that money from B12N.You are approaching $1 billion dollars, you know that, right?
