I loved this part of the article:

Dassan believes in immersing himself in all aspects of wrestling to sharpen himself as a coach and leader. He has aligned some of his coaching philosophies with mantras spoken by Cael Sanderson.

“The kids fall in love with our process-over-outcome philosophy,” he said. “It all came from Coach Cael. If I lose, is it the end of my life? If any one loss could catapult you to something greater, was it worth it?”

I’ve read and re-read this articles a few times now and I really appreciate KD’s coaching philosophy. It’s so common in the club wrestling scene (especially youth) for coaches to flaunt credentials and personal accomplishments just to get a kid to wear their gear for a single tournament or browbeat them into training at their club only. KD is the opposite. His kids know that he’s living and dying with them so it doesn’t matter if they miss a practice or if they ask something he doesn’t know the answer to. He’s got their best interests at heart and they know that. In my experience, that makes a world of difference with kids whether they’re elite or not.

The amount of malarkey in club wrestling is so goofy.

if your self-worth is dependent on which 13-18 year olds are choosing (with manipulation) to train with your group, you’re corny and I scorn you.

Working in malarkey and corny/scorn into your short post is impressive, or dare I say spectacular? :)
