I was at mugshots with the family. ESPN showed everything and never broke from the live feed for about 15 minutes straight . I was trying to keep my kids distracted the whole time, despite it being on several TVs in the room.

Not just their only shot on goal, it was the only shot they managed the whole match. Denmark outshot them 22-1 (17-0 before Eriksen went down). I can’t imagine Denmark’s players were focused on the game after the restart. Scary situation. Hope he’ll make a full recovery. He’s an exciting player to watch.

Good grief. As a casual soccer watcher, I’ve seen a lot of players act like they were shot when they were never even touched. You’ve all seen it too. Pretty much every time a soccer player goes down, we all assume it’s an act and he will be back to full speed as soon as the refs whistle heals him. OP said he didn’t see the CPR or defibrillator. He made a simple mistake. Y’all need calm down.

The players are all on the field and they all realize something happened and look at the scoreboard. The pitcher sees the batter and catcher and ump all just staring at the scoreboard. He steps off the rubber and turns around. Everyone absolutely at this point is in shock. After about 30 seconds or so the ump says "Come on, Play ball." and the game resumes.

That’s not even remotely the same thing. If Thurman Munson had collapsed on the field during a game, needed CPR and defibrillator shocks and then was stretchered off with his teammates not knowing if he was going to die, the game wouldn’t have resumed in 30 seconds. The OP’s whole point of this thread was to make fun of soccer for suspending a game because someone collapsed. He made the post without knowing any of the facts of how serious the situation was, which made the post very tasteless. He was rightly called out on it. We could really go without the false equivalency “when men were men” stories. It must be a traumatic experience watching a teammate receive CPR on the field and thinking that you may have just watched him die. It’s not something to be glib about.

People get taken off the field on stretchers all the time without teammates knowing their condition. The games resume fairly quickly.

Are you being intentionally obtuse? When people are stretchered off the field, we know their general condition. Alex Smith had a broken leg, Dak and Nick Fitzgerald had a broken ankle. We aren’t worried about whether they are going to 17ing die on the way to the hospital. I’ve never seen anyone given CPR on a playing field before. It’s a little different than somebody getting an air cast on their leg and stretched off acknowledging the crowd.

Wasn’t it a Bama player that got taken off relatively recent and no one knew his condition for until after being evaluated at the hospital? The game was resumed way before anyone knew his condition.

Were people worried he was going to die? Did they have to restart his heart on the field? Nobody realized Eriksen wasn’t going to die until about 30 minutes after he left the field. When you’re dealing with life and death, it’s different. I thought that was obvious, but apparently not.

Edit to add: The Denmark team doctor said today Eriksen was actually dead on the field and his heart was restarted with a defibrillator shock. What a bunch of pussies not immediately restarting the game after that.

The absolute only reason the game was resumed is that this is the second biggest soccer tournament in the world, and not finishing it would create a logistical nightmare. Any other situation other than a World Cup match would have seen the game suspended to a later date.

ESPN is ******* terrible how they treat players who go down. It's almost like they want people to die or have a career ending injury on their cameras for the ratings spike. Remember how bad they were when Tua went down in Starkville? Even sending the sideline reporter chasing the ambulance. Its terrible.

Again if you watch the clip everyone seemed to know right away it was serious. Not like anything that has happened in a game before. I can’t think of anything close to that happening OBA field in any sport

I guarantee you almost everyone on that field personally knew Thurmon. Many of them had been teammates of his. So why is the shock of his death any less? I assure you there were people there that did not feel the same after the news.

You name a few occasions where a tournament or game was cancelled due to a tragedy. The 1993 Citizen's Cup in Hamburg continued on after Monica Seles got stabbed on the court by a fan. It was extremely shocking to all that witnessed that. Obviously she didn't continue, but the tournament wasn't automatically cancelled.

I just don't get folks like you with such strong fascist level opinions that you want to virtue signal how much more caring you are than the rest of us realistic scum.

The fact is the guy did not die, and even if he did there was not a danger to anyone else on that field. The game, as life, goes on.
