There is way too much politics in sports in the state of Texas. However, Texas A&M seems to dominate the Houston area market. Last year, bowl season:

December 24, 2020 HAW vs. HOU (ESPN) 1.1 rating 1.9 million viewers

January 2, 2021 T A&M-UNC (ESPN) 4.3 rating 7.58 million viewers

Those are indeed bowl games and A&M is in a much bigger bowl. But damn. Check this LINK It's way more relative to ours and your situation. He lists a bunch of them over a few years including 2019, but I chose the ones that concern you the most, those in the Houston greater area and it is the average viewership per regular season games for 4 or five years. Texas A&M (1.851M) Baylor (1.12M) Houston (689K) The city of Houston is what, the 4th largest city in the country? 2.3 million people in the city and 7 million in the metro area. I have only been to Texas once, but my son in law and grandson work in the Houston area and they love it. Those numbers of viewers seem f**ked up to me, but they are correct by the networks' own numbers. What in the hell is going on?
