Why the big deal with this pope?

The Pope's views are not entirely liberal. He is against Gay marriage, contraception, sex outside of marriage, women in the priesthood etc,. I would agree that he has an anti-capitalist stance, in that he believes in wealth redistribution.

And with that being said liberals haven't attacked him for being a homophobic, misogynistic, intolerant bigot. I wonder why?

Because politicizing the Pope is silly and not done, neither with this Pope nor previous ones. Various Popes always have at least ballpark similar views, which isn't surprising considering the Pope is the head of the Catholic Church. Lots of politically oriented people fight against things the Pope is in favor of, such as banning abortion and no gay marriage and no death penalty. So people don't hesitate to go against what the Pope is for. But the Pope himself isn't politicized, which is why it's silly that some are calling him a left wing Pope now. Have previous Popes been referred to as right wing Popes? No.

You boys seem to forget that not only is the Pope the head of the Roman Catholic Church, he's also a head of state. Put those two together and you get invited to the White House and the U.N. when you come to the USA.

It's a common courtesy for a traveling head of state, no matter how far removed real power, to make an official visit We have to put up loopy old Queen Elizabeth and her dingbat spawn, a truly inconsequential bunch, making official visits and snarling traffic when they travel here. The Pope carries a boatload more heft and influence worldwide than the above mentioned Royal Family.

Finally, it's a couple of months away from an election year. No politician in their right mind is going to piss off nearly one hundred million potential Catholic voters by telling the Pope to take a hike.

No, because it's always been a pretty forgone conclusion that they were. In terms of popes, this one is fairly liberal comparatively.

You are missing the point. If you are conservative and believe that marriage is between only a man and a woman then you are labeled as an intolerant, homophobic bigot that spews hatred. When you are the pope no one says anything, when you are Barack Obama Pre 2011 then nothing is said. See how it works?

A lot of people conveniently miss the point when it will shine a light on their agenda. Look at my post when I started this thread. The real reason we see zero media condemnation of this popes anti liberal stances is that a political determination was made. Very simple, blast the pope like you do conservative Republicans and you lose millions of votes.

This Pope proves Nostradamus was wrong.
Next Pope. This is supposed to be the last one or at least there is no quatrain or scripture foretelling of another pope. Doesn't mean there wont be one. Kind of like the Mayan calendar ending in 2012. It's just where they stopped with it.

Strictly speaking, there have actually been (I think) three Popes after John Paul I (the Italian referred to as The Smiling Pope, who died a month after his election)........John Paul II (the Polish one), Benedict (the German), and now Francis.

The best example of stupidity I've seen in a while:

"The pope has seriously disappointed those who believe the Roman Catholic Church preserves and teaches the Truth. The Truth is Christ risen and unity with Him. It is not a debate about the minimum wage or air conditioning.

Pope Francis is popular on the world stage, and the crowds love him. But if he fails in his basic duties as the pope, if his concern is more for secular than sacred, if he aids the political agenda of the atheistic left, he is a false prophet leading his flock to a dangerous place, where there is more central planning and less personal liberty." - former Judge Andrew P. Napolitano.

That is a classic case of stupidity. It assigns God to one aide of the aisle, and that's certainly not the case.
