Would have missed that free throw without the cheer. You all complain and bash the students for not showing up and now you all are mad that they were too loud? What do we as students have to do to get ya'll to shut the 17 up about us? We heard you, we went to the game and packed it and tried to make a good atmosphere...now you're still not happy?

Um... Cause the OM player Intenionally sat down RIGHT when chicken was shooting the ball... I know this was intentional because right after he missed, their entire bench cheered. There's a time to be loud but there's also a time to know what the hell is going on. That was a petty damn critical free throw series and the students yelled "SIT DOWN" right when he was shooting the ball.

As far as whether or not he would have made it, I don't know... But don't be a reason he didn't.

So by your logic, you are totally cool with our fans yelling and screaming at inopportune times? After the other team scores, we need to be loud? After our opponent makes a big play? Cause by your logic, that's what you are saying...

Dude, seriously? I don't know that mad at the students is the correct thing to say. Y'all were absolutely great today. No doubt about it. But that left right sit down chant has run it's coarse. The Reb definitely timed it so y'all would yell sit down right when Craig was about to shoot the free throw. When the opposing team can use it to possibly screw up a free throw, it's time to stop it or at least be more smart about it. Don't yell when our guy gets the ball at the free throw line. If they foul out and sit down before the ball is in our hands, go for it. If the player is just standing there waiting to sit down, show restraint and let him shoot the free throw first then yell sit down after the free throw. Sounds simple enough, but I know it ain't ever gonna happen

Exactly. I used to like that cheer back in the day. Before the opposing players started figuring out they could just keep standing and make our guys shoot free throws while half the coliseum is cheering as loud as they can. Just stupid. And as far as the "we don't know that the cheer caused him to miss the free throw," no we don't. But we sure as hell don't know that it didn't.

To me, it's not so much about whether or not if affects the shot (let's be honest, it probably doesn't) as it is about how stupid it makes us look as a fan base.

I'm a student and I agree with the rest of the board...

I bet you also think it's a great idea to incessantly to yell "everybody up!" and distract our players even more by raising your hands up while we are shooting a free throw facing the student section. It's moronic pieces of **** like you that make the rowdies so 17'ing terrible. Our student section used to be organized and knowledgeable of game defining situations. I see the same ignorant **** happening at football games. Whether it's people ringing their cowbells and yelling while we are on offense or the complete lack of synchronicity with the rest of stadium during the "hey song" cheer, it's embarrassing and needs to be fixed.

Just Want To Say

I graduated a few years ago, and it's not some new phenomenon. I believe we played Georgia at the Hump one year (while Stans was coach) and the guy sat down right when someone was shooting a free throw. This isn't new and our students have done it for a while. Trust me when I say you prefer that to the dead silence I hear at Alabama basketball games.
