social media and online forums are the pinnacle of cultivating virtues and not toxic subhuman vices 👍

Are you talking about Stephen Spencer Pittman, 19, of Madison – who allegedly tried to burned down Beth Israel in Jackson MS?
The same synagogue that the klan tried to burn down?

you mean the last 7 years of nonstop anti-Israel online campaigns aimed at American college students?
Maybe?
More talking about the far right side of it that’s attracting young men like the kid that threw money at Portnoy outside of Boardtown.

Let’s leave room for Nick Fuentes and other young people screaming about Jews on the internet.
That's obviously a thing and plenty of people that listen to them are culpable for their views, but plenty of them if still a minority are probably just mentally ill and it was a coin flip on whether they'd end up with conspiracies about Jews, the CIA, aliens, vampires, or whatever. No clue about this guy, but seems like a good candidate for mental illness based on the little I have seen.

Also, I'm guessing just as a white kid from Madison, Nick Fuentes is as good a guess as any as to where any hatred comes from, but that's not where most of that problem originates.

He should get toward the high end of the sentencing guidelines. Make an example.

From his comments, he does seem to be more of the Fuentes/Candace Owens/Groyper type than the Hamas supporting, river to the sea, college kid type.

It is worrisome that this guy and the Barstool quarter thrower were both from upper middle class Jackson area families with solid private school educations and lots of advantages. I just don't remember this kind of anti-semitism when I was growing up in similar circles in the 90's. There was racism, certainly, but I don't remember much if any of it being anti-semitic.

It's a failure on so many levels.

I do think there is an element of this that is backlash from young, white males for constantly being told in media, movies, etc. that they are the cause of all the world's problems. I am not excusing him at all. Give him the max sentence.

I don't know that that's surprising. Take out the "jackson" descriptor and make the private school "private school or affluent public school where property prices and taxes are essentially tuition", and that's probably going to describe a huge chunk of the more extreme protestors. It's people that are handed everything and can't handle the realization that they are a loser all on their own. The typical occupy wall street protestor was from an affluent family. The loser in NYC claiming that they are going to make housing a public good comes from a relatively rich background. Hell, Karl Marx was from an affluent family and Friedrich Engels was from an out and out rich family.

When it happened I could imagine a far lefty, Islamic extremist, or far righty doing this. Antisemitism has been normalized in some not-insignificant groups in America.

Like many of these grifters, when you grow up with zero legitimate problems, you tend to create them.

The fact that he was texting his dad while committing the act is odd. Not saying the dad is complicit but I wonder what the dinner table conversations were about...

Anti-name the people group is en vogue. Words matter. People aren't "vermin". Just the sheer number of boomer this/millennial that smack is not "normal" for the majority of my life. We seem to really be taking our isolationism to micro level extremes. It's weird.

The number of mentally ill people in Mississippi is FAR MORE than the numbers of far left and far right "extremists" combined .

I think there is an intersection. Hence the rhetoric we support matters. Extremism on both poles attract people on those sides with cognitive issues. For every 1000 who are just enjoying the banter of "owning" the other side, some number are ready to act on the craziest **** stated. Honestly it's a blessing that it doesn't happen more often given what we tolerate.

I wonder how much social media has amplified this nonsense. It doesn't seem like being more politically oriented and believing with absolute certainty that your views make you morally superior to others increases one's well-being and happiness.

Social media amplifies extremism from one end of the political spectrum to another and it’s designed that way.

Consider the medium, most here probably don't believe it happened.
If we are talking about the douche who burned the synagogue, I hope he gets the same punishment id hope any human who committed the same crime would get. Make it harsh, public and swift.

Still holding on to that “good people on both sides” aren’t you!
