Why the PAC can't hold together

Will Phil Knight be enough to save Oregon's conference realignment hopes?

So despite the fantasies of some loyal to the PAC and thinking they are some supreme conference, the reality over there is that schools are looking to get out right now.

Public words are one thing, but behind the closed doors supporters are working hard to make sure Oregon doesn't remain in what is left of the PAC.

So if you are Colorado, Arizona, ASU, Utah--do you REALLY think Oregon and Washington are going to be sticking around?

Is STANFORD really going to stay in a conference with Boise State and SDSU?

Are these schools signing a GOR deal to hold a conference together where every school is actively working on exiting to somewhere else?

More info from another article on the subject of Oregon trying to exit: https://247sports.com/Article/Orego...-for-Ducks-amid-Pac-12-uncertainty-190416244/

Earlier this month, Canzano reported that Knight wants Oregon to move to either the Big Ten or the SEC.

“I had a well-placed source tell me that he didn’t think Phil Knight donated all those millions over the years for UO to get left in the college football minor leagues,” Canzano wrote. “I wrote recently about Knight’s role in this process. I believe he wants Oregon to matter and will do whatever it takes to help position the Ducks for success.”

College football insider Bruce Feldman explained this month why it doesn’t make sense for the Ducks to remain in the Pac-12 without USC or UCLA. Oregon was an original member of what was then the Pacific Coast Conference at its founding in 1915.

“Oregon is probably, in a lot of ways, a wild card because of Phil Knight, for one. They’ve had a lot of success, and they’ve elevated their brand,” Feldman said on The Rich Eisen Show. “Right now, they’re in a league that feels like, I don’t want to say it’s fallen apart into nonexistence, but it is on such shaky ground. It is so diminished from where it was (last week). It’s not sensible for them to stay if they have other choices.”

According to Pac-12 insider Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News, a source would be, “stunned,” if Oregon or Washington went to the Big Ten as it stands. Wilner stated the growing reality is that the two schools will have to make things work in the Pac-12 or leave and join the Big 12.

Didn't Dennis Dodd say the New Big 12 offer would be between 20-25 million
Industry sources tell CBS Sports that the Big 12 lost at least 40% of its value with the departure of Texas and Oklahoma. However, the reconfigured Big 12 with four additions could earn $20 million-$25 million per season, softening the financial blow.

For the Big 12, having the flexibility to increase its earning power, media markets and branding are attractive enough reasons to consider expansion with 6 PAC 12 schools. Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Arizona and ASU would more than likely get to 60 or 70 million.

Projections have said the new BIG 12 will be at least in the $55-$60 mil per school range before adding anymore schools.
