....I think if you look at Stansbury's career from 1000 feet up, it took him a few years to build his program, and then really starting with the 2001 season, we had a run of basketball excellence that lasted until 2005. Begun by guys like Markell Patterson, Ignerski, Austin and Zimmerman, and ending with Roberts, Frazier, and Power, those were great years. I think that the era that followed was extremely discouraging. One NCAA tournament and a second round exit to show for the Gordon/Rhodes era, which was disappointing for the talent that we had. Not to mention, that transferring really heated up during this period.

To me, this tournament run is evidence that we are back on track. The 06-08 teams just didn't have the toughness to do what we did this week. We are a very young team and Stansbury did a great job to get us in the tournament. We have a great young nucleus if we can add a low post presence to replace Varnado. Bost is amazing as a freshman, and we are loaded with young guards.

I agree with you, but I think it should be pointed out that we HAVE to go out and get a solid Center for the future. Otherwise, we'll wind up wasting some of this good talent at guard and forward that we have (assuming Kodi sticks around)...

I guess everyones forgetting about Romero Osby? There's a reason Kansas and Duke wanted him....

Elgin Bailey's not chopped liver either.

Everyone said we didn't have a center when Rhodes left, well, i think we have a replacement.

But he is a Shooting Forward... Kodi could fill in as our big body down low, but he's still not a true Center. Elgin, to me, seems like he'll always be one of those 6th man guys. Maybe I'm wrong, but he's good for 11-15 minutes a game.

I stand by my point that we desperately need a good C and soon.

for this season at least... It just goes to show this team does believe they are something. They won't give up. I don't see us going to Portland and getting behind against Washington and handing the game over. I think they will push Washington to the limits and just go to show everyone we have some fire burning in our bellies.

We need to get a good junior college center next year that can come in and give good minutes immediately. Then hopefully we will continue to have success with this group, and the high school recruits from the class of 2011 will take notice and we can get a couple of good post players from that class.

Do you say this assuming that Jarvis will go to the NBA?

This is my take on it. If Jarvis stays then we will need to go out and get a good freshman and give him around 10-15 minutes a game. Jarvis will still be our center but we will be building for the future.

If he leaves we will need to go out and get a Junior College guy to back up Bailey. Bailey will need big help next year if Jarvis leaves. Kodi and Osby are power forwards and would not contribute to the center position at all.

There are no good JUCO centers left out there that will be even at Jacquise Holcomb ability. That's where our recruiting is hurting. Guards are not an issue, but frontcourt depth is (or more importantly, will be).

We just better hope the entire four that we have left are back next year.

I think when Rick's career is over, the last 3 years will be looked at as a slump where he just couldn't get that team to play up to their potential for whatever reason. We should have our second best team of his career next season.
