I was in H'burg watching the game on the back deck of a certain bar. At least 30 people there, dressed in mustard and gold. It was a critical 3rd down play in the 4th quarter and the game was tied, and looking around, maybe 5 of them were watching the screen. Honestly, I realize its a s##t bowl game, and you aren't attending, but it was pathetic. I realize the fan-base is cheap as <17> but at least pretend to root for your team.....while wearing their s##t, in H'burg......

The fans at the game didn't look very interested either. Every time the camera scanned the USM crowd or band, they were all just standing around with dull looks on their faces as if they were being forced to attend. SMTTT!
right now USM is irrelevant even to themselves BUT I WILL ASSURE YOU playing us will give them something to rally around and put excitement back in their fans, increase season ticket sales dramatically and generally be a huge boost to their program. When their program was up and going we lost recruits to them quite often and it can happen again if we help them get on their feet again. Oh well it`s a done deal...I`ll turn the page.

For one, the aristocrats and farmers couldn't get along, so first we have MSU and UM to begin with, then they built both %$!+$%! campuses in North Mississippi, which enabled USM and LSU to easily dominate southern Mississippi until recently. And still do to an extent just because of location. USM is convenient and takes away from the alumni base and resources in a state with existing limitations.
MSU should have been built within one hour of Jackson. But, we are on the right track now with our current administration to remedy these types of goof ups.

I don't understand. Some of these idiots not only think we are going to lose both games, but that it is going to propel the mustard buzzards into the national championship while knocking us back to the crooms years. It really is unbelievable.
as mentioned it will give their fanbase a shot of a "5 hour energy boost". You can be assured of that because they will be more excited to get a couple of shots at one of the in-state SEC schools than they have been aout ANYTHING in the last couple of decades.
Nobody here in Hattiesburg even mentioned that game to me. And I see Southern grads alot. Not one word about their bowl game. These people really could give a **** less if they even have a football team.
I bet they pick up 3 more fans each year they play us.

1. The die hards that are really USM fans.
2. The USM fans that pull for MSU.
3. The USM fans that pull for UM.
4. The USM fans that pull for someone else (LSU/Bama/Auburn/Florida whoever)
This is a huge problem for USM because they have a lot of alums that went to school there out of convenience- close to home- or they chose to major in something that was not offered at MSU/UM at USM because they didn't want to go to the rival school. What has happened is after those people graduate, they start supporting the schools that they are fans of rather than their alma mater. So, instead of USM getting the money back, it's going to back to MSU/UM.
But because of this, it has also hurt their home attendance for football. Think about it- they have more students than Ole Miss, but they typically don't draw as well as them in a typical Ole Miss season. The reason that their alums don't come back is not because they have a bad team or product either. A lot of them would rather watch the team that they are a fan of.
They're not the only school in America that has this problem- UAB comes to mind in particular.
