Why VT?

I’m curious why we are playing Virginia Tech. Is there some UK connection? It just seems random to be playing a major 5 conference team that we have no rivalry with. I’ve got no problem with it... just curious why VT.

I'd love to take a shot at Virgins tech. I have some moves I think might work.

No telling if UK tried to schedule other teams first and they either said no, or wanted a return game which is something we want to avoid having to already play at Louisville next year.

VA Tech is a tougher team than I would have liked to play at this point, but they may have been all that’s available. Chances of winning at Rupp have proven to be nearly impossible in the Calipari era so I’m sure it’s difficult for UK to get non SEC P5 teams to play here.

Power 5, probably tourney team. Short travel. Step up from the earlier games everyone is complaining about. Good choice for a game. Ramping up with VT, UCLA, and then U of L before conference play.

The prevailing story is Buzz Williams knew he had a solid team this year and that we'd be vulnerable early. He feels like the Hokies have a legit shot to win today, and if not, that they'll hang with us and be able to use this as a learning experience/resume builder for the tournament. They didn't want a return visit by us to Blacksburg because they expect us to be better next year and I assume they'll be worse.

We obviously get a good opponent at home which helps us get ready for the Birds and Bruins, sells tickets because they are quality team, and don't have to risk a road loss there next season.

I personally would have loved to do the home and home with em, Blacksburg is fun and not a bad drive from Lexington.
