We need 4 more wins to qualify for a bowl right?

MTSU should be a win
UK is not very good at least what I've seen so far

we will win both of these games.

Ole Miss is a huge question mark at this point
We suck at Arkansas but I'm not sold on them
Georgia Tech is very doable

That leaves the improbables

Bama who is probably the best team in the nation (barf)
Florida who has looked shaky in a few games
Houston with their air attack and in the BCS hunt

I think out of these bottom 6 we can get 2 wins. That's 6 wins and shreveport.

I will step out on very thin ice and make a call now....I have watched Ga Tech, Houston very closely over the last 3-wks...Ga Tech is very beatable if we show up....Houston's defense is HORRID and SIEVE LIKE....we will have to outscore them or run the ball and control the clock...if they are on the sidelines, they can't score....MTSU..we better win...that puts us at 5-2....we loose to Florida and Bama....which means all we have to do is pick up a win either @ Kentucky or @ Arkansas....I have said all along and will keep saying...it will come down to the home game with Ole Miss and I only hope we get the win, get the bowl bid and knock them out of Atlanta all at the same time....what a beautiful night that would be....

i believe if we get 6 we are in memphis at the liberty, i really think that they want us back after the showing our fanbase had in 2007

unless the SEC doesn't get 9 eligible teams again this year. We will not play Houston again in Memphis. I'd rather play a BCS conference team in Birmingham or Shreveport than go to Memphis anyway.

these next two games could make or break us as far as the bowls go. We need at least one, and two would likely put us in good shape with MTSU and UK left on the schedule. If we lose both, it's going to be really tough for us, and it would pretty much require an upset or two.

Now as far as MTSU and UK are concerned, those games are on the road, and aren't exactly gimmes. We must take care of business.

Agree. Psychologically, the GA Tech game could be the most important game of this year for us.

We win: we are 3-2 coming off a very solid win with Houston coming to town - who are beatable is we can control the clock. 3-2 puts us in a solid position to where it wouldn't be a stretch to squeeze out 3 more wins to get bowl eligible - a very successful season by most's standards given our recent history and brutal schedule.

We lose: we are 2-3 headed into the Houston - who could potentially ABUSE our secondary. That could be a game where, if we are down mentally, could get out of hand pretty quick. Houston can score quickly. Winning 4 of 7 after starting 2-3 would be a monumental task with our remaining schedule.

I think losing last week's game is what will keep us from doing bowling. We're not near good enough to assume we'll beat other mediocre teams.

I thought we'd need at least one quality upset to put us in bowling position and we had that last week. The schedule still gives us a chance at 6-6, but I really don't think we beat Houston with our secondary unless their OL can't stop us from getting good pressure and we get a few turnovers.

...wtf happened to you the other night?

Anyway, you nailed it. We must win 1 of the next 2. If we can do that, we can win 3 out of UK, MTSU, Arkansas, and Ole Miss.

The Southeastern Conference has agreements to send nine of its member institutions to postseason bowl games following the 2008 season. The winner of the SEC Championship Game will automatically participate in the Bowl Championship Series comprised of the Sugar, Rose, Orange and Fiesta Bowls.

The Capital One (2nd), will then make its pick following the BCS selections. The bowl must select the team with the next best overall record or a team within one win of the team with the next best overall record.

The Outback, Chick-fil-A and AT&T Cotton Bowls will work with the conference office to determine picks 3-5. The Cotton Bowl has the first preference of teams from the Western Division and the Outback Bowl has first preference of teams from the Eastern Division. The Cotton or Outback Bowl can select teams outside of its divisional preference, but must not select them before the opposite bowl selects from its divisional preference. The Chick-fil-A Bowl has the selection of preference following the Cotton and Outback Bowls.

In selections 6-7, the AutoZone Liberty and Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowls will make their selections, not in any specific order, but in consultation with the SEC Office. The Bowls will rank available qualified teams in order of preference. If there are no similarities in the order of selection, the bowls will be granted its selection. If the bowls rank the same teams in preference, the team involved in the process would get its preference of which bowl to participate.

The Petro Sun Independence Bowl will receive the eighth selection and the Papajohns.com Bowl will have the ninth selection of available SEC teams.

So let's see....

BCS Champ game - Florida

BCS Bowl - Bama

Capital One - LSU

Outback - Georgia

Cotton - Auburn

Chick Fil A - Ole Miss

Liberty - South Carolina

Music City - UT (if they get to 6)

Independence - Arkansas (if they get to 6)

PapaJohn's - MSU (if they get to 6)

USC, UT, Vandy, Arkansas, MSU and UK are all in the same boat....shooting for 6 wins and bowl eligibility. I think USC gets there with relative ease and might win 8 games. I don't think Vandy will make it to six. I think UT does. Arkansas really needs this weekends game with A&M to help their cause. Kentucky is going to struggle to get there too, as will we.

Potentially?? Yeah, ok.....and a crack addict could potentially steal you blind.....the sun could potentially come up tomorrow.....Obama could potentially raise taxes.

It's gonna happen.....the only question is will Houston throw for more or less than 400 yds.

If I have an opinion, I'm going to let it be known, whether the board agrees with it or not. And I have no problem if the board doesn't agree with me. That's the beauty of sixpackspeak- we're all free to let our opinions be known.

IT's why I don't post on another MB.

I would be EXTREMELY pleased with 5-6 going into the Egg Bowl. I just don't think Ole Miss can beat us at home with a rowdy crowd, a more developed team, and a bowl game on the line. Especially with 45-0. Especially with Ole Miss possibly feeling, by that point, as if their dream season has been lost anyway.

To do this:
We must go 1 for 5 against GT, Houston, Florida, Alabama, and Arkansas.
We must go 2 for 2 against MTSU and UK.

Tons can happen between now and then, but if you lined up State and OM tomorrow, I'd like our chances.
