Why were we so hellbent on getting Faison? What changes can be made to run game in the bye week???

Someone posted this in another thread yesterday, but I can't find it. This is the most atrocious...I'm not even sure what to call it....it's not blocking. It looks like he was diving to get out of the defender's way. It seems intentional on his part to avoid contact with the defender. We were desperate for this guy???

That's just awful. You will never see worse blocking by a RB than that...he didn't just whiff the block...he went out of his way to avoid making a block. Which points to horrible coaching in the run game. Which points to Blackwell and Elliott as the RB coach and run game coordinator.

When speaking of the run game woes Beamer addressed the following issues (in addition to our pansy OL): "runners looking inside when they should be looking out (or vice versa), runners seeing what could happen at the second level when they should be looking where the play is designed to go, such as the A-gap."

It sounds like our RBs simply don't know the very basics of running the ball.

So we have a perfect storm of an OL that can't block, RBs who don't know what to do with the ball when they get it and don't know how to block when they don't have the ball.

You're obviously not going to fix it all in the bye week, or even most of it. I guess the most they can do is open up the RB competition again? You're probably not going to revamp the OL in the bye week, but maybe you can identify a RB who at least knows which way to go with the ball and how to block.

What a total mess.

That play cost us big. Should have had a td on that series and a bigger lead. Maybe we still lose, but we still would have had a chance to win all the way to the end.

Adaway is the better blocker but needs inside lanes to gain yards rushing. Faison can run to the outside better but has smaller stature-cant be much taller than Juju was. I wish they'd play Fuller more this week against UK.

I know Sellers should have gotten rid of the ball, but come on, you have to give him just a little help. Faison didn't even try to slow the defender down.

This points to utterly abysmal coaching in the run game. When the OL is struggling like they are, you need RBs who know what to do when they do/don't have the ball.

Yep, or just a lazy effort on Faison's part. Supposedly he has NFL aspirations but that kind of play will definitely lower his grade.

Agree. The split second before he's about to make contact with the defender, he goes down like he'd been shot with a bullet. That kind of play should earn him on a spot on the bench the rest of the season.

Coaches fought their butts off to get you here and you do everything in your power to avoid making a critical block?

Herein lies the problem with our current state of College football. He’s already been paid. His performance here is not tied to getting more money. No incentive to put it on the line.

Not only that but they are payed to play and they duck out of the bowl games and or don't try. The whole system is FUBAR.

You have a first and goal at the two. Your qb is 6'3", 240 lbs. Surely they could run up the gut. If you can't make 2 yards in 4 attempts then let Mizzou have the ball. This is on Faison, LaNorris had zero time to toss it away.

I know Faison is the focus of your clip but look at 51 losing contain and a weak arm block that turns into a hold. Awful footwork. How bar is the O line too. OMG it is bad. Also 44 did nothing to generate space away from the defender. How many errors on that one play- fundamentals are missing here big time.

I'm sticking with my position that there is very little player development after they get to Columbia. The players are no better three years in than they were in HS. South Carolina is basically an All Star HS team.

Don't disagree. The OL blocking sucks, but he's at least trying. My beef with Faison is no that he missed his block or did a bad job of blocking, it's that he actively avoided making the block.

Totally agree. We have had 3 good years of 4-star O line recruiting yet not much to show from it. I thought Markee Anderson was going to be a starter by now. Not much happening. There are others that just don't seem to advance. Take a Lex Cyrus who was coveted and has "blazing" speed. How can it be that he won't make the field? never hear a word about a 4-star recruit?? Surely, we have better talent on the bench than Peyton Williams. Play the freshman now I say!

This is Year 5. At this point we should be able to point to players who were brought in and developed.

Who has there been?

Much of football is winning individual battles on each play and this requires a competitive mindset.
Competitive mindset seems to be lacking on our team.

Yes, but how did this happen? Do we only recruit noncompetitive kids? Surely not. Or are they losing their competitiveness once they get in the program? Or are they not sure of their assignments?
