does MSU fan base always go for the used up has been's, never were's, other school cast offs. Why don't we use the Tulsa, Rice, Boise State, Utah, model and find the next up and comer and promote him up to MSU versus taking someone like TT who would be stepping down in the football program pecking order.

If he struggled at Auburn this year with all there advantages over MSU why do we think he will succeed at State. What am I missing?

-They are utterly, completely terrified of new and exciting things. Diddy always said, "three things can happen when you pass the ball, and two of them are bad."

-They're afraid a new, young, exciting guy will leave us. So, we bring in old guys because the old guys aren't going to leave us for somewhere new.

That said, if we hire Tuberville, it wouldn't hurt my feelings. Especially if we bring in Hudspeth as a coordinator. At least if Tuberville leaves with his pine box, we have a coach in waiting.

So his struggle for one year means he is a "has been"? That is dumb as hell. Go look at his overall body of work and get back to me

Nutt vs. Orgeron is the example I would throw out there.

You basically never know what you're going to get with some guys, but hiring a guy that's won everywhere he's been usually doesn't turn out bad for the new program. Might not be as good as you like it, but I'd like to see some examples of proven winners that fell flat on their face somewhere recently (meaning don't give me Johnny Majors at Pitt)

Bama had turned him down, and he hadn't coached in college in what 17 years. Did you hear anyone else trying to hire him when we did?

...Tommy T. would be a vast improvement over Croom.

That's what we are shooting for in the end: To land a coach who is a big improvement over Croom.

Tommy T. stole Dandy Dozen recruits (like Jason Campbell) out of the state of MS for years, yet suddenly that's all forgotten.

I doubt if Tommy T. would be MSU's next Alyn McKeen, but he sure knows how to recruit & win in the SEC.

Plus, as mentioned, he would be a huge upgrade from Croom.

He is not an offensive coach and that is what the Big Auburn money wants..
Time will tell.

I would take him at S-Vegas in a second.

the reservations with Tuberville are a) his fire to build a program and b) his innovativeness as an offensive mind or willingness to hire someone with that type of mind

Neither of those were question marks with Nutt. Nutt didnt want to get fired at Ark. Tub wanted to get fired.
