There is nothing, yet, to vote on. The SEC statement on the matter is pure CYA. Slive & Co., are slicker than owl feces on a doorknob. No action taken, does not necessarily mean that no course of action was decided.
I'm willing to guess at the A&M BOR meeting tomorrow...
Under Item 15 on the BOR agenda:
- BOR votes to leaves Big iiiiiiiiii, and gives Dr. Loftin sole authority to request invitation to SEC.
- Loftin then leaves room for a moment, making a phone call to Slive & Co., requesting admission into SEC. In the meantime, BOR carries on with other items of the agenda (essentially killing time)
- Slive makes conference call to Presidents of SEC 12, who coincidentally are available for the call.
- Slive briefly presents presidents with A&M's request for invitation into SEC. Slive polls for a consensus to take vote for said admission.
- SEC Presidents decide to immediately vote on the admission, approving of the invitation to Texas A&M to join the SEC. Also, Slive is given the authority to administer/approve the invitation.
- Slive concludes conference call, immediately relaying the invitation to Loftin.
- Loftin returns to the BOR meeting, requesting the BOR to take a call from Slive regarding item 15.
- Upon the BOR's approval, A phone call is opened with Slive, The A&M BOR, and Loftin.
- Slive officially invites Texas A&M to accept membership into the SEC.
- The Board of Regents officially reopen item 15 of the agenda. BOR votes on the acceptance, while Slive is in the line. After successful vote, phone call concludes.
- Meeting concludes, coincidentally, in 15 minutes.
Now, I'm week with the legalese. But I could see it crudely playing out this way. Two hours later, Slive shows up in College Station for the late afternoon press conference with Loftin, Byrne, and the BOR.
