Guys whether we want to admit it or not, the playing 9-10 guys equal mins or trying to do is gonna hurt Kentucky for guys like this
True but you either believe in having a deep bench or you don’t.
I support the depth idea. You absolutely will lose guys but I believe it pays major benefits down the road. This loss sucks but we are still 10 deep with talent right now

He can be the star on an NIT or first-round loss team to end his college career.

If we have learned anything about Pope, he has 2-3 guys in a similar mode already in mind or contacted to take that spot.

And by the way - none of these supposed "insiders" should EVER act like they have a source again. Maggard is dead, and any ******* that tries to claim he has a source is going to be immediately belittled and demeaned.

“Platoon”

Same thing. You’re a rival coach going after a guy you use all the weapons in the bag
Good!!!

I’m glad we have a coach now that wants TEAM players, instead of ME guys!!!

In the long run our results will show from this approach.

Good riddance!!

IU couldn’t afford to lose him. They have more money to spend than there were great players available.

Onto the next. Meltdown will be interesting though…
I'm an IU fan and I agree wholeheartedly.

This was about cash and IU needed difference making players a lot more than UK does.

They basically had to land Wilkerson.

Depending on who IU adds going forward, DeVries' first team in Bloomington could be pretty interesting.

It would have sucked had he been really good. I still haven't seen one video clip of him creating his own shot.
Well you haven't watched very much then. GTFO here with this "he wasn't that good anyway" BS. He signed with Indiana, good luck to the young man, no need getting silly over it. He can flat out ball, would have LOVED to have him at UK. We will be OK, and even find a guy to fill the roster spot (not as good as Wilkerson), I am not going to act like he sucks.

He let it slip in the Field of 68 interview that De Vries emergency flew to Arkansas to see him this morning. They definitely dropped more $$$$ on him today.

They made him feel like a priority and gave him lots of money.

I did the same thing when I took the job I have now 23 years ago. I don’t blame him.

Darn!
And even a photo op with a thoroughbred race horse in the winner circle at Keeneland couldn’t get the job done.
Should have taken him to Maker’s Mark or Wild Turkey afterwards for a sample of good ole Kentucky bourbon. That might have been enough to changed his mind. lol

My current thought process:

-Wilkerson went to IU who paid him the most
-UK had to be offering 1.5M+ maybe more like 2M to even be considered
-Given we have that available to spend, I’m confident we’ll get a good piece for that role
-No I don’t expect us to increase our price for other options, we could’ve done so here and chose not to do so
I know the exact NIL spending is a matter of speculation, but if it’s true that we had the budget to beat Indiana’s offer but just chose not to, then I really think that’s a mistake, especially if you’re right that we’re not offering any more to the next man up. If we just don’t have the funding, that would be one thing, but if it’s completely voluntary that we just don’t want to exceed a set amount for any one player, that’s just setting us up to always have a gap or two on the roster. You don’t win anything for saving the most money in your roster construction.

It’s worse. The NBA at least has clearly defined rules that give order to their free agency process, whereas the college version is sheer lawless anarchy. And NBA players have to wait a few years before they can be free agents …whereas in CBB essentially everybody is a free agent every year.
And it can start at different times. You never know who is going to come into play.

We’re all getting refund checks after next season for the unspent money

Jackson and rice are the only good shooter left as of right now and Kentucky has zero shot with either one. Pope will get somebody, I fully believe him, but man this one hurts. Especially since it sounds likes he never even really intended on coming here

That's what pisses me off. He wasted Pope's time that could have been spent on another recruit. Scumbag.

I love pope. He’s doing very well. But he’s not a great closer. Clearly.

A lot of these portal guys are using schools such as Kentucky as a bargaining chip for more money. That’s probably what he did here, and Indiana raised the ante and UK probably decided enough was enough. There’s more players out there and others announcing for the portal daily.

I didn't want him, it's a personality thing. The guy just admitted that he's not into playing for the name on the jersey, being a part of something bigger. Pope peeped that one out, IMO.
None of these guys that committed here are just playing for “the name on the jersey”. Those days are over in basketball for most players especially for kids that didn’t grow up a Kentucky fan .

I don't understand how anyone is insider enough to translate to any certainty unless they are in the agents office, the player's head, or maybe access to personal circles of all these kids.

General basketball and even program connections no matter how deep only get you more tea leaves to read and that can help but it can only logically go so far.

How would anyone holistically have insider information on a thousand or more kids?

Can we get a thread going where we can publicly shame UK "insiders"? They've been historically bad this offseason.
It’s because there’s no real insiders.

It’s just some folks found a way to get others to pay for “inside information” that is purely based on speculation and rumor or “feeling.”

It’s quite the racket.

They are far from the only good shooters available tbh
