With several senarios that could play out in the MVAC. The one thing for sure is that a Wilkes County team will win the MVAC. The two remaining games between these four inter-county rivals could be block busters. Im riding with those Cardinals. Thoughts anyone?

Agreed. That's very good for your county. I would tend to agree with the assertion that the Cards are the favorites. I can't get over that WC defense. Yes they can score 60. I defintley think Central is more than capable of winning, esp. now that Boles is back - he makes that offense even more diverse and explosive and he plays MLB. He will play a big role Friday in trying to stop the multi-dimensional Triple option out of Rhonda. One thing the Eagles have going for them is that East hasn't seen an offense like WC all season. Will be interesting.

If you would have asked me 3 weeks ago about the West-North game I would have eagerly predicted a comfortable West win. I think people are sleeping on NW. They've clearly improved tremendously over the last few weeks and have found some diversity with the sophomores they moved up. I think North wins this game. Walsh is still out although I don't know how much longer that will be but Ortiz has done a nice job filling in for him and may be a better option at QB anyways.

Who would of thought Wilkes County would of had the top 4 teams in the conference this season, if ever? There is a clear shift of power happening in the area and I don't think it changes too much in the future.

Good to see Wilkes schools doing well. The potential has always been there. With a county the size of Wilkes, it seems the atheletes are spread out all over the area, and not as concentrated as smaller counties with only 1 or 2 choices of highschools to attend. The feeder schools have good programs and community support as well, here in Wilkes. Success breeds opportunities for much needed involvement into programs by the younger kids. Keep up the good work Wilkes. Were super proud of all the schools in the area, no matter how it all shakes up here in the final two weeks of the regular season...oops i bout forgot..GO CARDS!!!!

Some facts...first time all Wilkes schools will finish 1 thru 4. First time Ashe or Starmount will not finish in top 3. First time ever of a Wilkes County sweep of Starmount.

That's huge, and also a testament to how dominant Starmount's football program has been over the years.

Yes. It is. Not sure if Starmount or Elkin will ever get back to those dominant stages again. Not sure what is in the water in Wilkes county, but kids now expect to win and they dont roll over anymore and play dead at the sight of blue/orange or blue/gold. Honestly, it's long overdue that the Wilkes county teams compete on the stage that Starmount and Elkin have ruled year after year.

Both Wilkes games will be interesting to watch and could be thrillers.

East needed a kicking in the butt and after SC did that early in the year as they have came alive since then. I think they are a year away from being truly stout but they aren't bad this year either. WC's done what they needed to do to contend but they gotta keep getting better on defense to do things when it matters. Any team with an explosive offense can score 40 but if you can't stop a team from getting 41 you ain't gonna do anything when it matters. WC's offense will be the best East will face until the playoffs. Only team in the area that has an explosive of an O is MA who East could meet up with playoff time if they make it far enough.

This will be a great test for East on both JV and Varsity. JV this is the title game while varsity wise it could very well be that way. It'll come down to who's defense capitalizes more. Both have powerhouse offenses but defense wise East's is far better but they gotta stop that advantageous O that Central has. It could be a case of who has the ball last.

As for North and West Wilkes it could be a doozy as well.

West in my opinion is by far the more complex team than North is due to what they run and have. North for a while was the Grimes show but since they moved those 2 JV kids up they haven't been as predictable. That move killed their JV season but helped the varsity get in playoff contention. West has great size and they run the option very well it makes them very complex. Defensively West's better but they gotta find ways to stop Grimes and those JV kids.

I think this one again will come down to the defenses. North has to stop West from holding the ball for a while chewing the clock and West has to put a stop to Grimes and force the pressure on those JV aged kids. They haven't been tested yet and this could be that game. I see either a low scoring slugfest or something very highly scored.

There's a lot of pressure on this game for playoff purposes as well. Both will be in the 2A West bracket more than likely. Winner will get a better seed and maybe a home game perhaps in a odd scenario. That is something hardly anyone expected at the start of the year for both teams. Shows the fun of high school ball.

Indeed it does Slasher Killer. It's amazing to see all the teams in Wilkes leading the conference pretty much in every offensive and defensive category. It's also fun trying to predict the outcome of these last inter-county mash ups!! All these teams have earned the respect of each other, and have set the stage for the future footballers of Wilkes County. I think it's outstanding. Good luck to all, but GO CARDINALS!!!

Starmount didn't start playing Alleghany until around 2000 I think.
When was each school founded? Alleghany in the conference with old Ashe County schools and Elkin if I remember.

Was Starmount in NW1A at one time?

Alleghany was part of the Blue Ridge 1A for several years. In 1997, Starmount went 1A in the Northwest 1A and I think they started playing Alleghany then but when the Rams went 2A and joined the Mountain Valley 2A from 2005 to 2008 they didn't play them. Starmount dropped back to 1A in 2009 and they made the MV a 1A/2A league.

Lucky to be tied at Halftime with West Wilkes. East Wilkes offense looks like a shell of itself the last 2 weeks. It's crazy!! Wrong time of the year to look stagnant, but they do right about now!!
