I think they probably do if they finish 9-1 and there is no undefeated Pac-12 team.

The Big 12 is done. The Pac-12 is probably not going to be seriously considered unless Oregon or another team finishes 7-0, and I don't think Cincinnati/BYU/etc. have a real shot. So it's probably 4 teams from the SEC/ACC/Big 10, although taking 7-0 Oregon probably takes a lot of heat off the Committee. Let's assume there is no undefeated team wins the Pac-12.

The SEC, ACC, and Big 10 Champions are all in for sure. The only Big 10 team that could realistically get in without a conference title is an Ohio State team that loses the Big 10 Championship Game without getting embarrassed - I don't think the Committee would extend that same favor to Northwestern, nor to Indiana finishing with 1 close loss and not playing in Big 10 CG.

The only ACC team who could get in as a second team would be Notre Dame losing the ACCCG to Clemson in the rematch. If Notre Dame wins the rematch, Clemson is out and the ACC is locked into just 1 team.

If Alabama loses the SECCG to Florida, they're probably the second SEC team and Texas A&M is SOL. But if Alabama beats Florida and A&M is 9-1, the fourth spot should be theirs unless Ohio State or Notre Dame lose their conference championship games and the Committee takes them over A&M, and I think A&M's resume would compare favorably to either of those.

Does it matter? Bummer's high paid team is a shoe-in for NC. With the yearly contracts they are awarding go ahead and move them to the NFL!h

If A&M wins out and Florida and Clemson both lose in conference title games then the Aggies should be in. But I tend to think Clemson wins the rematch with Notre Dame and both of those two get in over A&M.

No. It wouldn't surprise me if they don't win out. Even if they do, they need several things to fall into place for them.

Probably not too much...
Bama beat Florida in sec champ

ND beat Clemson in acc champ or ND drop a game before losing to Clemson in acc champ

aTm win out

I think this gets them in

It’ll be a damn shame for ND to get in again and then get embarrassed again. Clemson will beat them in the rematch. Does CFB really need for Clemson and ND to make the playoff?

Bama will be #1, osu2, clem3, nd4. It doesn’t really matter who is at #4 - they are going to get killed anyway. ND shouldn’t continued to re rewarded without any indicator of success.

The Committee is praying hard for one of these two scenarios:
  • Oregon or another Pac-12 team finishes undefeated, and then they can just take the SEC/ACC/Big 10/Pac-12 champions with no controversy.
  • There's no Pac-12 undefeated, but Alabama, Ohio State, and Notre Dame finish as undefeated conference champions, and then Texas A&M is the only plausible #4 team to take, so basically no controversy

If they can't get one of these two situations, they're probably looking at have to pick between 11-1 Notre Dame and 9-1 Texas A&M and half the country or more is pissed no matter what.
