MC just had 220 kids take the test...not sure how many will attend in August, but they had a great test and a lot of great players from the South Side Catholic Schools. Yes MC and SR have seen a dip in overall enrollment, while BR and Marist have been climbing, but they are both still very strong schools/programs and I don't think they are in any danger....as far as Football participation, MC had over 70 kids playing on the Freshman and Varsity teams last season, that's more then BR and Marist had on their rosters. Like Dean said, Frank isn't going anywhere for awhile, but one extremely bar stool rumor I heard, so no real weight to this at all....depending on how long he plays in Canada/professionally...I heard Jordan Lynch may be a name tossed around...an alum, a big name to draw kids in, knows the offense...rumor of course, but an interesting one.
Always will be Rita because of tradition and the neighborhood ties, but LA is getting up there...North Side/South SideDOS and McCaravan,
What team is currently MC's biggest rival?
What do you know!Always will be Rita because of tradition and the neighborhood ties, but LA is getting up there...North Side/South Side
I was one of the first classes at 77th, but always feel like I missed out on the true SR at 63rd and claremont. However, can you imagine how intense the SR-StL rivalry would have been in the 70s and 80s (when every boy in the city neighborhoods went to catholic school and) if SR was at 77th during that time? They would have been fighting for all the kids on 79th street. As it was, I can't imagine a much better atmosphere than the 85 Rita-Laurence playoff game. The amount of D-1 talent on the field was amazing, and many of those kids (especially SR kids -- yes I'm very biased) were hard-nose inner city kids. That was a great game. Then it all came crashing down the next week when a bunch of suburbanites (I am one of them as I grew up in EP) won at 63rd and Claremont; god, that loss still makes me sick.

Lenti is not going anywhere for a while. Nobody was beating Estl in 85 anyway. I think they beat Rice 46-0 in final.
McCaravan,
Obviously, you're focused on MC, but I was wondering if you've heard anything about SR's incoming potential football class?
only team in 85 who was beating Flyer was the BearsAgreed. Flyer was powerful that year!

Depends on what position he wants to play. He's perfectly suited for MC's option offense as a QB or RB...very athletic, very quick..., may not fit well with a spread pass happy offense like BR or Marist...Again, just my 2 cents, we'll see how he develops.Rice could sneak in there for Lynch brother
Wittymoniker1,
I don't know much outside of the players in the Southwest Catholic Conference. I know some people at MC, so I know they have a real good class on a whole coming in. I have no idea what SR has coming in from the Burbs or the Park District Leagues, but from the SCC, most of the talented players that I saw/heard about, are going to MC, Marist and BR. If anyone has any son's or family members going to SR out of the SCC last season, I apologize, I'm not trying to say they aren't good players, I may very well have not seen them or heard about them, this is just from my observation of the games/players I saw last season. MC has a new Head Freshman coach this year, we'll see how he does, don't know much about him.
Care to share your thoughts on SR?[/QUOTE

I'd say the Dolphins, too? Yes?Or Mike Richardson just had a terrible game that day.
Thanks for the response. I honestly think SR needs to get those solid SCC players to stay afloat here. Let's hope they are competitive this year at the Freshmen level.
I agree. It really gets sad thinking about how much things have changed from the 70s/80s. SR could thrive without getting any kids from Beverly, Mt. Greenwood, or the suburbs since they dominated St. Rita Parish, St. Mary's, St. Adrian's, etc.
Hell, even when I went to SR in the early 90s (when they moved to 77th), we didn't have to rely on Beverly or the suburbs, as we were still getting almost all the kids from ST. Mary's, St. Bede's, St. Denis
