upper 80's.........He's been a little "over used" IMO.........Amory relies on him a little too much, especially in these 3 game series in the play offs........Pitched 6 innings a week ago Thursday against Tish Co......Turned around and pitched 7 two days later.........That's a lot for a 16 year old kid......The best pitcher I've seen so far this year is a kid from Hamilton, MS by the name of Dylan Earnest........Check out this kids stats.......Unreal.......He's thrown two perfect games.......He's a more complete pitcher than Cox......Much better breaking ball and he throws strikes....I think he signed with ICC early but he'd be worth another look IMO.......
I'm sure Butch knows Cox is there.....No doubt.......Butch still goesto Monroe County frequently......Still has family there.........</p>

if he is pitching that much. Many times this type of overuse may not show itself until ages 19-20. Coaches should know better at ALL levels. Some just do not get it and the kid pays the price.

turned around and pitched 7on Saturday only two days later........He then pitched 7 last night........That's a total of 20 innings in the last 8 days........Amory will only go as far as this kid can take them.....The rest of their pitchers are very young........Cox has won 12 of their 24 games this year.......That tells you something.........I'm not criticizing Cox at all.....Helluva pitcher.......Very good hitter too.......Lots of power.........We should be all over him.......

whether or not the other pitchers are all young or not has nothing to do with constant use of Cox. I have seen it over and over again...coaches at the HS level and lower ride a kid till he breaks. Many times the injury occurs quickly but many times it shows itself a a few years later. Either way, it is not good for the kid. I have no respect for coaches who abuse a kid's arm.Fortunately in the lower leagues, pitch counts are becoming part of the rules; however, you have some idiot parents who allow their kids to play in multiple leagues where they may pitch back to back to back nights. It is insanity and many times it is an ego trip on the part of the parents.

throws a lot of strikes and "didn't throw a lot of pitches" in that first game against Tish Co or so I was told by someone who watched the game.....That's kinda hard for me to believe considering the amount of strikeouts he gets.....Nonetheless when you consider warming up and pitches in between innings it is still excessive......It wouldn't happen if it was my son.........You're messing with a kids future.........

Also, I just found out this infofrom a friend of mine that spoke with Cox's dad very recently.........He said that Butch came to see Cox pitch and left a notefor the Amory coach asking Willto call him.......Will tried numerous times to reach him to no avail asThompson didn't answer his phone and hefinally gave up........A few days later he received a similar note from one of the UM coaches.........Will tried calling him back and the Ole Miss coach answered the first time..........Now, I'm sure there might be reasons for Butch to have not answered (practice, games, etc.) but you would think that after several calls he would've called the boy back.......As of yesterday, he hadn't.........More bad press for our pitching coach.........I like Butch. and know him personally but that's just b.s.........

is going to ICC, but he is supposed to be going to MSU after one year there. I don't know if he was told that he come aboard and walk-on for a year and then get a scholarship, or he could go JUCO for a year and then get the scholarship or what the deal was.

Next year is a strong year for pitchers in Mississippi- Jacob Lindgren from St. Stanislaus and Scott Votaw from Lawrence County are two of the better ones. We will have to fight LSU for both of them, but I think we got a 50/50 chance with Lindgren and about a 25/75 chance with Votaw. Also, Luke Lowrey from Sumrall is very good, and Ridgeland has a pitcher named Nick Johnson who is also a possible D-I recruit.

You also have Cody Livingston from Northwest Rankin, Josh Laxer from Madison Central, and Kirk Thorton from MRA.

Hawtin Buchanon is a good prospect that has committed to Ole Miss.

Also, we have a commitment from Trevor Fitts from Pelham, Alabama who went 14-0 with 139 K's for them this year. He sounds like a potential Friday night guy.
