will forfeits be treated as hosting a game?

since the IHSA is going to put CPL teams in the playoffs even though they likely will not be able to play due to the chicago teachers strike, what happens when there is a forfeited game in regard to a team hosting a playoff game?

so if Downstate High is scheduled to host CPL High in round 1, but that game is forfeited, does it count as if Downstate High hosted that game?

If that’s the case, then following that logic any tram seeded 9-16 that gets a game against a CPS team in the first round and wins by forfeit could theoretically then play their next 3 games at home (assuming the next 3 opponents had yet to play a road game). I know it won’t happen, but the IHSA really needs to set a date and time for the strike to be settled, and if not eliminate the CPS schools and slot the next schools up.

Oh boy... they have set a date. They have to be back at practice on Wednesday. And they aren’t swapping teams on Wednesday and screwing the non-cps opponent... which 4-5 team is it that you are a fan of....?

Probably no way to do that next school up thing.
If Chicago kids are in school next Wednesday team can practice wed/thur/fri and play Saturday.
The Chicago team in question might be a 5a team and slated to play Joliet Catholic for example but the next team up to be in playoffs might be an 8A team like Naperville central. naperville can’t go into 5a bracket and when it joins 8A it literally changes pairings for four classes. So no way that idea will work.

Just my thought, but give CPS until 3pm on Monday to settle strike. Publish two different brackets tomorrow, one if settled, one if not. Knowing who you are playing by 3pm on Monday shouldn’t be much of a disadvantage, and gives those teams who would get in a chance to practice. It’s just ridiculous that some teams are could get a 1st round bye.

No offense to any particular teams here but... that idea wouldn’t be that bad if you were scheduled to play Lincoln Park and they got replaced with Blue Island Eisenhower... not the end of the world. But if you were to play a Phillips and it all of a sudden became Batavia that would be a beach... and one day lost in opponent specific prep could be considered a disadvantage.

Any school that hosts a 1st round forfeit will get a home game week 2....only fair thing to do...I believe that will be what IHSA says...

I would bet good money on the exact opposite.

If a team below you in bracket goes on road week 1 and beats higher seed and are due the next game at home they are not sending them on road round 2 just cuz you got a forfeit win at home round 1.

Q. If a team is scheduled for a home game in the playoffs and is awarded a forfeit, will it count as a home game with regard to the playoff hosting policy?
A. No. A forfeit will not count as a home game for the winning school.

The byes are a bad idea. They should have bracketed a CPS team along with a secondary opponent as a contingency. Next highest playoff point team on the list, 2nd highest and so on. So the bracket might look like this:

Simeon/Marist vs. ???
Phillips/ Naperville Central vs. ???

That way no one gets the advantage of a bye week regardless of what happens.
