Hell no.

The rule is withdrew from draft, not... went undrafted.

He went undrafted. He didn't pull out.
He fked.

Gonna need to look elsewhere immediately like right now. This one is cooked.

Anybody that doesn't realize the NBA part was put on there to stop Kentucky and Mitchell is....
Not paying attention.

Our University president voted for it. All16 teams voted for it.

Not even worth the trying to stop it. It was done on purpose by our own people.
Again how was he supposed to withdraw from the draft when that was his only option at the time? That’s a valid argument.

It looks like to me they added on the NBA just to get Kentucky. And our president voted for it.

He should be fired. And we shouldnt be letting him get away with it. 💯

You wanna vote against Kentucky basketball interests? Find another job pal

So I'm not a lawyer, but now that the SEC has taken an official stance I think there is now standing for a new round of lawsuits against the SEC. We should expect a bunch of state level orders to start soon, no?

Zero chance Mitchell plays for Kentucky.

We don’t get to have nice things, this should be accepted by now.

Mitchell played in the NBA Summer League, didn’t make a roster, and then filed to come back to college.

He is the definition of what all the power conferences are about to ban.

It was a nice try, would’ve been great, but it ain’t happening.
As usual you don't have the faintest clue what you are talking about

You actually can't withdraw from the draft if you are auto entered. It's impossible

It was actually covered in the KY court case. He (and the others on the list) had to pay back any money they received from contracts signed over the summer. It was part of the TRO ruling that players believing they had exhausted their eligibility only entered into those contracts because they believed they could no longer play in college.

Now whether or not the Kentucky ruling stands on appeal is still a question. But legally the SEC will have a hard time enforcing it with most courts ruling in favor of the players at this point.
The courts can and probably say the kids are eligible but the SEC can and will punish UK and Coach Pope. The penalty could be to forfeit all SEC games the kid plays in. Courts can't control what or how a conference can punish a school in their conference. The released statement by the SEC states, "The commissioner is authorized to enforce this expectation with Penalties against member institutions." No mention of penalties toward the kids.

The only way the NCAA and/or SEC can stop Mitchell at this point is through the courts.

Good luck, b*tches.
No one will try to stop the kids or punish the kids but the conference can lower the hammer on the universities of the conference. Will we as a university want to play a player that will end up forfeiting games, losng revenue, and being locked out of conference tournament, or being ineligible for March Madness. Courts have zero impact on what a conference can do to their members.

What makes you think that conferences are somehow immune to the courts when the NCAA itself isn't? The courts absolutely can "control what or how the conference can punish a school in their conference."

It doesn't matter if the school's "agreed unanimously", if the players are the ones who sue as the damaged party. It does sound like UK probably gave up any right to challenge this as an institution if they voted for the rule.

Time will tell. I don't think a court can overturn any conference rule. You are acting like a court could tell a conference to change schedules and dates of games. I wish Mitchell could play but the odds of him being in Lexington in 2026 is less than zero.

They do if it’s unconstitutional.

No, I'm acting like a court can tell the SEC they can't can enact certain rules as the SEC is a subgroup of a monopoly (the NCAA), and without collective bargaining there are antitrust laws that they have to follow. With the two premier conferences enacting this rule, this is begging to be slapped down on the same antitrust basis that the NCAA was.

I guess they could argue that players could chose the ACC or Big 12 or something, but that's clearly a step down in earning potential outside of a few outliers. Especially in the football world.

There are clearly groups in this country that are above the law, the SEC is NOT one of them.

The fact that university presidents signed off on this is significant. While this years roster may be in legal limbo, this may be the last year we see such chaos. The president runs the university. Athletic Directors and coaches will follow the rules agreed upon by the SEC/ university presidents. Even Rupp had little to no power vs the university president and board. I personally like it. It may end a lot of the confusion we have now. Personally, I don't think Mitchell should be allowed to play.

You have a point, but man, I’m selfish. We need a guy like Mitchell on next year’s team to have a real chance at #9. And the ‘22 class getting to play doesn’t really hurt anyone.

Curious why you think guys next year should get a 5th year, but not Mitchell? I'd agree if he was like the guys coming back from NFL training camps to the NCAA. Mitchell literally only went to a try out and didn't sign a professional contract.

The SEC can “announce” whatever rule it wants.
Kentucky fans don’t read those.
Kentucky coaches don’t follow those.
Kentucky > SEC!

There’s teams that hire hookers for underage players that are still allowed to participate in the ncaa. Play him regardless.

RJ Luis who played at St John's and went through the draft process but went undrafted was made eligible by an injunction today. That SEC statement was probably in reference to that

He didn't even play college basketball last year he was in the g League the whole year I think.
Right. He declared for the draft the year before and went undrafted and then transferred to LSU this spring, basically nobody thought he should be eligible. He was ruled eligible via injunction yesterday and that's probably why the SEC released that statement.

Look to see if Duke took any 22 people.... NCAA already came out and said, if you okay one.. We have the right to hold you out of tourney... Not acknowledge your wins.. If Duke takes one... NCAA will back off... If they didn't. They will look to punish those that did. Guess the football season will tlel if the SEC and NCAA have any teeth. I'm not counting on Mitchell yet.... That being said. NCAA screwed the pooch on this bad... In a time when all sports are having issues with integrity, Image and inclusion... To make this big of a PR blunder is stupid.. Really going to take congress to step in, and rule on alot of common scense issues
