Will Mitchell stay eligible?

Mitchell has played 4 years. Get out! Your time is over. 5 for 5 doesn't start until next season and I hope it doesn't actually see realization. Its a silly step to take. It makes no sense when you are dealing with a tremendously successful enterprise like college basketball. You will see conferences take over from the NCAA. That will be a positive. Guidelines will be formed. If Pope were to try to get a player like Mitchell next season, hopefully it be against SEC guidelines. The ky. President will not allow such a BS move by Pope. Just my hope and opinion.
Justin McBride that you?

You can't subvert the court system by punishing someone else into harming the party the court ruled in favor of.

The court says Mitchell can play. The situation isn't such that: The SEC can't touch Mitchell, but they can penalize UK to touch Mitchell. Penalizing UK would mean UK won't sign/play/pay money to Mitchell. Mitchell then still suffers harm. The courts would see through this.

In regards to Arkansas fans saying Sankey can make UK forfeit any games--they didn't make Alabama forfeit games that Bediako played in despite him later being ruled ineligible. Based on that, I just don't think they would--assuming the courts still say Mitchell can play while he's playing. And UK isn't going to play him if the courts aren't on his side. Furthermore, I would think UK can cite that in a court challenge if Sankey does such a thing.

I get that UK and LSU agreed to this rule. But that's the weird thing. LSU doesn't even have a starting 5 if they agree to the rule. Why would they agree to it? Capiluto hired J Batt as AD and then voted against him and Pope shortly after? Didn't even give the legal system a chance to win out for UK?

I half way think we're going to find out that the SEC agreed not to fight either school or other schools on players for this season. And in turn the schools agreed to the rule starting in 2027.

He shouldn't be allowed to come back. Would it be nice to have him? Yes. But college athletics needs to come first over this pro nonsense.
Just to be clear,

The situation isn't that "If we let these guys back, all pros will come back." The situation is that the class of 2022 is getting a 1 time exception given the NCAA rules, and the NCAA will be able to enforce 5 in 5.

I actually struggle with the idea that "Well, you went pro because we tried to cheat you out of an extra year. And that trumps anything else."

According to a screen shot of the decision in Louisiana posted by the attorney on the case

The court order from Louisiana covers " the NCAA, it's officers, agents, employees, representatives, successors, assigns, and all persons acting in concert or participation with it"

A lot of people on Twitter spent the night arguing the SEC is NOT an agent or representative. Sure. I don't care. I don't think you can argue they are NOT a person acting in participation with it. They do sports together. They make money together. Their financial interests are very much aligned.

Imagine thinking a sports league can ignore the federal court system. 🤣

The courts might not rule in MM's favor, but if they did the SEC can't just ignore it. WTF are you smoking?
The AD's and school presidents all agreed with Sankey they would not play these guys. Go ahead and play him, let him play all year and see how many games the SCHOOL will forfeit.

Congress can't pass anything to help every day Americans. If they spent their time debating this **** right now, I'd be pissed.

I wonder if I could get elected to office running on a platform of "The NCAA are morons, let's fix this mess:"

- 4 years of eligibility per student athlete
- your ineligible if you've played pro anywhere
- only 1 free transfer, all additional transfers require a mandatory season of ineligibility
- NIL salary cap of $15 million per sports program
- transfer fees where schools pay a percentage to the school they are taking the transfer from
- 64 team NCAA tournament, no more Final Fours in Football stadiums
- all conferences are reset to their membership circa the year 2000, with strict limits on all future realignment moves
- all conferences must be regional
This is one post where i can agree with everything you wrote. Well said and makes perfect sense.

Looks like I was wrong and he didn’t sign the exhibit 10. Thank God. Hopefully that’s enough for the SEC.
Well we don’t know yet. It’s kind of complicated. Players involved with off-season draft stuff could still be penalized for signing their exhibit 10 contracts verbally. I have no idea how it shakes out but it isn’t cut and dry from what I’ve seen. There are people saying the lack of pen-to-paper signatures will mean eligibility is certain and then there are people saying the verbal contracts are going to mean ineligibility is certain. The only thing I know for certain is that I’m clueless either way.

Well, if you ask certain posters on here, I got “owned” lol. Whatever that means. I’d love a RR get together and see if everyone is as tough as they claim.

and I still don’t see how you can “play” for an NBA team, whether it be summer or not and not sign anything. What if you got hurt? Who pays the medical bills? And if it’s not in writing and signed? Also, if you get any income, it has to be taxed. How does that work?

The clarifications from the SEC leads me to believe Mark Mitchell wasn't even targeted with new rules 👀

But until the SEC specifically says he is eligible, I'm not expecting to see him participate with the team.

Only thing I see them fighting is he played in the summer league but then they say that doesn't justify him being ineligible.

Fingers crossed he's good. Daffy, come on down!!!

I still think this all about LSU/Kiffin.

100%. That clarification is all I needed.
Surprised that LSU agreed. But now it makes sense that we did. Sankey must have given Cap And Batt reassurance Mitchell would be okay before hand.

Hope so. They can go after LSU all they want, just leave us alone lol.
