Will MSU have a 1,000 yard rusher in 2014?

Robinson got 78 (26%)
Shump got 46 (15.4%)
Griffin got 24 (8.2%)
Milton got 13 (4.4%)

I don't see any of our RBs breaking 1,000 yards if the carries are so spread out again in 2014. Even if Robinson gets 60% of the carries (assuming the same number of RB touches in 2014, approx 300), he'd need to average 5.6 yards-per-carry to break 1,000. At 70% of the carries he'd need to average 4.7 yards-per-carry.

Prescott is our best change.

If we run Dak like last year, he will get over 1000. But, he won't last the entire season.

I think Dak and JRob both can make it. Keep in mind that Dak only got about 60% of our total QB snaps last year -- and will probably get 90% next year.

JRob is at 5.96ypc average for his career thusfar -- and on that pace, he only needs 168 carries to make it. That should be pretty close to the number he actually gets IMO.

150 for Dak, 170 for JRob, 75 for Shump, 50 for Aeris, 25 for Griffin, 30 for Williams, 15 for Jameon, 15 for Holloway = 530 rushes approx equal to this year. I actually think we run it a bit more than we did last year -- and play with a quicker pace under Dak than we did under Russell.

Barring injury, I think Prescott or Robinson make it. If we are being successful enough to limit Dak's carries, Robinson will make it first. If we are not as successful and have to rely on Dak, I think he'll make it first. They'd both make it in a great year, with Robinson killing the weaker opponents and Dak stepping up and having huge games in the SEC to complement good games by Robinson.

I think you'll see Robinson get a lot more of the carries than anybody has gotten in the past, unless Griffin reemerges as a primary option. Robinson offered a lot of different things that Perkins didn't, and still got very few carries. Next year, Robinson will be the upper classman, and other than maybe Griffin's blocking, I don't think any of the backups really offer a different skill set than him. Shump and/or Griffin may be a little more downhill runners, but Robinson is a bowling ball himself. Unless Robinson wasn't getting carries this year because of disciplinary reasons, in which case maybe Mullen won't be as loyal to him as he was to Perkins.

That still requires Robinson to get around 16 carries a game and average 5+ yards a carry, which would be a pretty big change in how we distribute carries, but I think we'll actually get more run production against the LSU's and Bamas this year, so it will really only require that he blow it up against a couple of the weaker opponents.

I hope we see Williams emerge as the guy that comes in every game for a series

or two/three. I still think DAK gets to 1000 if he can stay healthy and Williams in that role will provide insurance and will also help Dak with a better shot a staying injury free. Mullen's system needs two good QB's that both play.

I really hope we don't see Dak running that much. I think that is begging to get him hurt. We have a stable of top notch RB's and that is their job. I realize that Dak has to run and that is an integral part of the offense. I just hope it is not that much. I would love to see J-Rob break a 1,000 and his main backup (whichever one that is) get around 600-700. Let Dak max out around 500-600. That is averaging 40-50 ypg for him. If he can run for that average and throw for around 270ypg plus our RBs' perform as mentioned I think we will be A-OK offensively.

I think JROB can do it if he stays healthy for the majority of the games. To keep him healthy you may have to spread out some of the carries which hampers his chances of getting to 1,000 yards. I think it depends on how much shump, griffin, or williams emerge.

I would like to see the offense adapt some to take some of the rushing attempts away from dak. He's a great player and we may have to have him running to win games, but I'm just afraid he'll get hurt with the beating those runs take. Maybe we can teach him to slide more, but I don't see him doing that. I hope we get Damien Williams a lot of work in the spring where he is more comfortable if we need him.

1000 yds is a great thought, as long as it's not DAK. Not only will he get hurt again, but the team needs him for two more years. Barring injuries, we've got backs in number with potential. USE them, and let DAK pick his spots wisely.

Dak needs to be on the field for 90% of snaps next year so have to limit his running to keep him healthy. Let him throw for 2300, run for 700. Then have Shump and Jrob combine for 1600 yards. I'd call that an outstanding year.

I agree but Dan loves to play the power game with a big QB so Dak is gonna run

it a lot. Just hope Williams does too. I think Dak will be fine if he will just fine tune his game to only run over DB's and small linebackers, slide on the rest*.

i don't see it happening unless JRoB or or Dak are able to pad the stats early and often against non conference foes. But i'd rather see them resting.
