Just want to make sure we still have a competent baseball staff. Have we ever had a coach that was actually good in your mind?

I counter your Tony James commit with the Nick Turner v. UT game... Dude had like 3,000 KO return yards in that game.... and it was 52-14 with UT not even trying in the 2nd half...

My biggest issue with Mike Leach so far is the lack of adapting on the OL.. When the defense can get pressure with 3 DLs and dropping 8, maybe you should try something different... He's been here long enough to either cut down splits from the absurd 3 feet that he loves to talk about... or use a TE... and cutting down the splits isn't even a hard thing... with 3 ft splits, each OL is on an island. They are all playing like they are a LT. If you cut down splits, they can slam DLs into each other and there is more room for error. In essence, it becomes a 5 on 3 dogpile... That is not a hard adjustment but it speaks to his hard headed ways of not adjusting... no matter the situation. ANd that is not a good headcoach mentality.

He has used wide splits successfully for a long time. He has a system and it has been successful so far. Most of our linemen, all but Cross, have about 5 starts at their current positions and were fairly good against LSU. Thats why almost all of his OL recruits are tackles. All the starters except Sharp are tackles so playing like a tackle shouldn't be too far fetched. Not sure how successful he will be here but he has a history of success and knows more about coaching the O line than anyone on this board.

The only way wide splits work is when the ball is gone from the QB's hands in 3 seconds. You cannot do that all game long with 8 defenders within 10 yards of the LOS in the SEC... only way it is successful is if we actually back them up with long throws and we seem incapable of doing that.. Plus, when we try to do that, we hold the ball longer than 3 seconds and the sacks come. Literally no other team/program uses 3 ft splits... and it is for a reason. Too much room to work for a DL. The OL is at a complete disadvantage for anything except for quick throws... And if that is the plan, we should just play with more WRs and fewer OLs in the game because they aren't needed...

Then:
1) He has NEVER competed against anything close to an SEC defense week in/week out. This can NEVER be an undervalued point that his success is only against Pac12/Big12 competition.
2) He has been shut down pretty well against the top SEC defenses so far...
3) even in the weaker Pac12, UW showed pretty well how this defense is the one to play against Leach. Few teams will commit to beating their rival as their primary goal the way UW did but if teams do commit, they win.

I would be happy if we still got beat by Bama every year but beat everybody else. But you may be spot on with your coaching tips. I don't know...I have never coached college football. Certainly never coached any 11 and 2 seasons or top 10 teams. I can look at others who have that experience tho and assume they know more about football than me. I wouldn't know anything about turning around 2 trash football programs out in the middle of nowhere but you probly do
