Will RU lose any players to the Portal before the Bronx Bowl?

Politi thinks Greg has a big sales job to keep everyone. I won’t post the link since it’s nj.com

You guys think anyone declares for the portal? I hope not

If some of our players leave for other schools because of money or our lack of it Politi will def write about it and in depth. That would make us look horrible that we were not able to keep our players. What SEC or BIG team would not want Toure to play linebacker for their team or for our 1000 yard rusher to run behind a stout OL and not just an average line. Pacheco would have been a first round pick if he was at Penn State or similar with great lines to run behind. The players are as loyal as the fans and alums.

I should be easier to retain players with nil. Getting to play another year at Rutgers is a lot more fun than the NFL. We have at least 3 players that are NFL material, I hope they stay and have some fun.

It is going to be very interesting to see exactly how that kind of stuff plays out.
my take is if kids leave due to utilization then that would be more damning. All programs lose kids, we are not going to be unique but kids leaving due to performance or utilization, that's a different discussion

I hope Kyle goes pro, he's earned it and I'm excited to see how he does at next level. Would love to see him in the black and gold

Virtually Every school in every sport thriving or not is subject to losing players via the portal / poaching / NIL. You would be naive to think otherwise in this day and age. It’s the wild west and a free agency environment out there.
yup

we benefit too, just need to make sure we gain more than we lose

That's never a good reason to stay. Respectfully it just isn't. The reason kids go to college is to prepare themselves for life and set themselves up for future success. If a kid has the opportunity for an NFL contract and there's not a great chance of him significantly improving his draft stock it's flat out stupid to stay. One bad hit to the knee and that NFL career is over. For those familiar with Jalen Smith from Notre Dame, he went from being a sure fire top 10 pick to a second rounder due to a knee injury sustained in the bowl game, it cost his family about $7 million...

My guess is Melton and Monangai announce that they won't play in the bowl game so as not to risk injury since they are declaring for draft after the season ends.

Those two were announced as part of Senior Day.

Couple of others who may think about aspirations: Lewis, Toure, Dixon, Longerbeam maybe. Although I don't think any of them are ready.

Our offense is a trainwreck with disastrous coaching. Some of our talent will certainly want to play in a competent offensive scheme.

What offensive talent? KM goes to NFL. Brown looks a step slow compared to last year. Team doesn’t have a TE. None of the WRs can get separation. OL did a good job, but lack depth.

Kyle and Max gone for a shot at the NFL. Simon enters the portal To play somewhere his final year Although he might still have 2 years left. not sure about all the others, let’s hope it is not more than this, and even better if they all come back.

WRs can get separation but Gavin never finds them or misthrows if he does. We left 6 or 7 wide open passing TDs on the table this year because Gavin can’t do a simple two receiver progression.

I'm more interested in seeing how many (or even if some) Rutgers Men turn out to just be mercenaries. Hopefully the risk of a contributing player leaving for nothing more than more money is rare. But we shall see.

the receivers have become the scapegoat for the cultists. None of them are highly rated and Gav is so it must be their fault. Of course anyone watching can see the receivers get separation, make very good catches, and make Gav's number look better than they otherwise would

It's funny, when you say Gav blows and needs to go you hear, 'Greg knows what he is doing, he knows more than armchair coaches, etc etc' but that same Greg LOVES Dremel and thinks highly of Washingtons' upside. Can't have it both ways

It cost him nothing because as a sure fire top 10 pick he had insurance. Pretty sure there were articles written about his

Gavin 100% missed receivers and he definitely left 6-7 TDs on the field. I am not arguing that fact.

You said: “Our offense is a trainwreck with disastrous coaching. Some of our talent will certainly want to play in a competent offensive scheme.”.

My response was to your quote above and I asked who is this offensive talent? KM will go pro. Sam Brown is a step slow. The team doesn’t have a TE that can catch a pass. The WRs aren’t leaving for a better program. Dremel? Washington? Jackson? Strong? Who is the offensive talent you speak of?
There is not a Britt, Carroo, Sanu, Underwood, Grant or Kroft in that bunch.

I am not here to defend GW, but there is a lack of talent on the field overall.

I was about to say just based on RB shelf life and the continued sparkle from Pacheco giving us notice I could see Kyle going pro.

Kinda a ‘sleeper’ just based on position but I could very easily see several big time programs going after Patel
Some posters wanted to replace Patel after his missed one FG early in the year. He turned out to be the real deal. How about the game where they had Appleby go for the 51 yard FG instead of Patel and he missed.

Who’s the TE? You know Langan is out for the year. He’s injured and out of eligibility. Yesterday the TE had more offensive PIs than catches.

O line is my biggest worry as its the area that’s most improved and necessary to contend against the upper half of the conference.

The good players from this team, if they chose to go to the portal, may find another opportunity at another P5 school. Maybe. But, they may not be starting. The so-so players might get an opportunity at a G5 school. And, the rest, well .. you can figure that out.

Most players know this or figure it out pretty quickly. There are a limited number of spots out there for the volume of players in the portal. It's not like every player on every team is going to get a phone call from Nick Saban. And, the NIL deals for an overwhelming number of players is not nearly as lucrative as many here think.

Pure speculation on my part. No inside knowledge. But this is how I see it:

- Monongai goes pro but plays in the bowl
- Melton goes pro but plays in the bowl

Defense
- Lewis signs NIL deal to stay at RU
- Dixon signs NIL deal to stay at RU
- Longerbeam signs NIL deal to stay at RU
- Toure signs NIL deal to stay at RU
- Powell signs NIL deal to stay at RU
- Bailey signs NIL deal to stay at RU

Offense
- Patel signs NIL deal to stay at RU
- Young signs NIL deal to stay at RU

I'm probably missing somebody but I would think any other losses wouldn't be devastating.
As far as additions:
- RU adds Tight End from the transfer portal
- RU adds edge rusher from the transfer portal

One silver lining is that we don't have to allocate a ton of additional resources for the QB position, whereas a lot of other schools will need to use a ton of money for that spot.

I don't think Young has eligibility left.
Need a WR and a kick/punt returner in the portal.

Toure's quote this week ("5 years is a long time") makes me think he wants to move on. No inside knowledge on my part at all, just from that quote.
