In case you didn’t know, “ King Richard” walked out on his family before starting a new one which brought Serena and Venus. Won’t acknowledge his other kids to this day. A true family man…

He made a fool out of himself in front of millions of people. Chris Rock took it like a champ though.

It was a bad and inappropriate joke, but it should have been handled with a "hey man that wasn't cool" conversation after the show. Instead he acted like a child and assaulted someone on live TV.

If someone made fun of your wife's medical condition on national television, and you looked over and saw the hurt in her eyes, how would you react?

I'm not saying assault is right. I'm not saying Will shouldn't face the legal repercussions of his actions. I'm just saying, I get it. In that moment, seeing his wife publicly humiliated for a medical condition, he saw red.

Lol please. She has alopecia not cancer. Comedians have been making fun of bald guys for years. On no planet was that an appropriate response in that circumstance.

The last time Will was in the news (other than this Serena movie) he was crying because his wife bones other dudes.

Im guessing there were strict guidelines for comedians mentioning anything about cuckboi Will, and Rock tried to see if he could get one innocent joke in…

…or it’s just an act. Probably that. To help Will look like a “man”.

One day you may find a woman who wants to marry you. Or maybe you will have a daughter whom you love. If you ever have to see her deal with any sort of medical condition that impacts her appearance... and listen to her cry after she looks in the mirror.... maybe on that day you will understand why a man might lose control over some prick making jokes about your loved one's appearance.

And it looked like he was laughing initially to me. And I keep seeing that he "apologized," but what I saw wasn't much of an apology

Nervous laugh maybe. Playing along for the cameras. I dunno.

There is a guy over on the Tar Heel board who says his daughter has Alopecia, is in a support group, and a 12 year old girl in that support group just committed suicide over the teasing she was getting at school. Medical conditions that impact appearance can be extremely tough to deal with. It's easy for people to say it's no big deal until it's your loved one you see crying, suffering, being mocked for something they have no control over.

Respect to Will. Personal jokes like that are uncalled for and I am sure he has seen how her condition has affected her behind closed doors.

********. One of the female hosts was equally disrespectful by implying she could eff will because Jada approved. He laughed that one off too.

Personal jokes have been around forever. If this were the case, Ricky Gervais should have left the golden globes in a casket.

He laughed at the joke, realized he messed up then acted like an idiot. If Gilbert gottfried can make a room full of people laugh at a 9/11 joke the next day, Jada can take this joke.

I’d agree with all that. There are different types of alopecia. Make pattern baldness is one and dudes deal with it everyday. I had a situation where I got 3 random small bald spots and it seriously freaked me out. Just in completely random spots with no pattern. Was able to get some injections and it was fixed. But yea, a lot of folks aren’t that lucky. And if we are being real, it’s different dealing with it from a female perspective. I knew a girl who dealt with a type of alopecia where she had no hair. It’s gotta be tough.

WITH THAT SAID…..you don’t do what Will Smith did. The dude who gave that speech has some serious issues. He had a legit breakdown on what should’ve been the best night of his career. Defended his actions by using the Williams’ father as an excuse. Literally said “I am a vessel for love”.

Nah dude. You are a psychopath. If he did that on an Oscar’s stage, what would he have done if that happened at a non-public location?

The worst part is that it was a bad joke that had tremendous unintended consequence for the academy. What a crock.

He also goes on to talk about Richard Williams as if hes some Saint without mentioning dude just up and left a whole family and ignored his other children for serena and venus.

This is true virtue signaling on the highest scale.

The point is that the Chris rock joke wasn’t even funny, it was just mean. I support Comedians right to say whatever they want and offend whoever they want. But they also need to be prepared for the fallout of taking offensive cheap shots.

That was crazy. I don't know what Smith was thinking, but he looks like an idiot. Chris Rock made the best of the WTF moment. That joke was probably over the line, but that is not an excuse for WS to act like that.

I don't know what this King Richard **** is. I don't follow the Williams or celebrity drama.

I agree the joke wasn't funny but there's about 10 ways that don't equate to possibly ruining your career to show you disapprove. He could clearly hear him based on their interaction after the slap. Tell him it's over the line and confront him in private.

The Oscar's loved this but public opinion seems largely against Smith here.

Not only that, Smith knew rock couldn't retaliate in the situation which is also a ***** move.

They were both over the line but only one person actually did any material damage.

Is anyone sure Chris Rock even knew about her Condition? I sure didn't, so I wouldn't know why it should be assumed Rock did. It also wasn't even a joke poking fun at her condition. I took it more as her looking like a badass chick with a buzzed head. Demi Moore was pretty hot with a buzzed head and obviously Jada is incredibly attractive with short or long hair. So where is the insult that warrants any serious reaction?

Will Smith singlehandedly took away an incredible achievement from pretty much everyone who won tonight because no one will remember or talk about them. It will be all about the fight. He then proceeded to make a mockery out of himself, the academy actors in general and black men. He went on some ramble about being a self-appointed protector of women and having all this responsibility. Then he tried to finish it up talking about love and protecting family and even compared himself and his actions to Richard Williams.

It was an absolute disaster and will be a stain on his career for a long time. He is obviously dealing with some serious emotional issues and I hope he seeks help.

Like everything else with this family, Jada made it a point to talk about her struggles with alopecia publically and received (deserved) respect for being open about it.

It's possible rock didn't know but likely he did. It was a bad joke in poor taste but that doesn't warrant this reaction.

Scientology and the social pressures of being deemed a cuckold in the eyes of the public (not to mention an apparently toxic marriage and family life) likely pushed will to behave the way he did. It's rather unfortunate.

He sure is benefiting from sort of privilege that allowed him to assault a black man on live TV and not be arrested or even removed....

Once again this just proves that black on black crime doesnt matter to liberals lol.

It proves the wealthy live different lives than the rest of us. It also proves there are hierarchies of wealth.

People I would normally respect (samuel l Jackson and Denzel Washington) were consoling will Smith as if he was physically accosted. What a crock.

If will Smith were an average person he would have left in handcuffs. Being black is ancillary here.

Its called liberal privilege and liberals are literally spending this entire night trying to spin this. All 3 are black and all 3 are rich. All 3 are liberal and you aren't even allowed to assume one as a woman. All 3 are Hollywood.

Somehow this will be white people's fault by tomm night.

And Bruce/Kaitlin Jenner is a republican transgender who literally killed a person shortly after transitioning and nothing happened because he/she/him whatever is rich.

While it is absolhtely the case that Hollywood is wildly liberal, the fact that there are two different legal systems depending on wealth in this country still stands true.

I'm just not seeing how you arent the one trying to spin this more than they are (and I disagree with them too).

You're absolutely correct. My father in law was a Lawyer for over 50 years and he told me many years ago,
" It's the legal system if you're rich and the justice system if you're poor "

You gotta be wired differently to use this situation to automatically bring up race/bitching about liberals. You can’t whine that everyone else always brings up race and politics when you do the exact same thing on this site.

I'd be more angry at other dudes piping my wife than a dumb joke.

Chris Rock needs to keep Jadas name out of his mouth, but no concerns about August Alsina's dick in Jada's mouth. 😂

He even wrote a song about it

To small minded people who are incapable of thinking about anything else in their daily lives.

Yes.

By the way, haven't heard too many people talk about the criminality of the slap as much as the "audacity". That's where we are. I guess it would have been different if he actually punched him.
