Surely they will come to an agreement before the season starts. The SEC has already amended the policy for individuals using facebook, twitter, etc... Maybe they'll amend it for the press.

One part that I don't quite get:

<font face="Arial" size="2"><font face="Arial" size="2">- The SEC and its universities must be granted licensing privileges to use newspaper images for its own news coverage and other uses.</font>
</font>
<font face="Arial" size="2"> <font face="Times New Roman" size="3">
</font></font>
So the SEC can just go take what it wants to from the media outlets that do all the legwork?

The SEC released an ameded policy yesterday that eases many of the restrictions it initially placed on blogging and audio/video. Have not heard a Gannett/AP response though.

Yeah, the rules are stupid. But that argument is irrelevant.

If Gannett & AP hold out on this one, they'll simply become more marginalized than they already are. Fans would simply turn to ESPN, school websites, etc. Gannett & AP already struggling big time. They've got as much leverage on this one as a lung caner patient arguing about the price of oxygen.

Conspiracy theory: ESPN is pushing this policy to control college football coverage in the same way the NFL coverage is controlled & manipulated for profit.
