Should be a good game with Gretna. Gretna lost to Bartlett Yancy 14-6 last night. I love to see JV teams that throw the ball. running up middle gets old after a few plays.

When a JV team is loaded with 10th graders, it doesn't say much. I like to see mostly 8th graders on JV teams. I have seen 10th graders be "JV all stars", and never be heard from on varsity their junior/senior years.

Gretna JV beat WC 28-26. WC tied score on 2 point PAT with 34 seconds left, but was flagged for holding. After yardage was stepped off, 2 point try failed.

I have never liked 10th graders on JV.

I have seen 11th graders on JV at times. I know a team several years ago , that had a Senior running back on JV.

11th graders, yes. Pretty sure at bigger 6A schools 11th graders on JV is not unusual. Now way a senior is legal though.

The last time I read VHSL handbook, it was legal depending on age of player.

But when there are juniors (and seniors) playing JV, the program isn't getting built as it should as it pertains to future. This is almost true when a team plays a lot of 10th graders.

I like to see JV teams loaded with 8th graders.

Does 1A still have the rule where JV is only for grades 8-10? I remember playing JV ball at WP versus Christchurch & we had to delay the game 90 minutes because they wanted to play juniors against our team of mostly 8th/9th graders.

JV is 8-10. VHSL passed a new rule this year...if you have 8th graders on the team, you have to play 8 minute quarters. You used to be able to chose 8 or 10. 40 quarter rule is still in place for players also.

Can someone explain the 40 quarter rule I've been hearing contrasting options on it?

Is this a football specific rule for all of VHSL or is it just a 1A/2A rule preventing 11th-graders on JV teams in all sports? (Or maybe a variation of one of these)

I think that rule may be getting misinterpreted, I just read it and it states "if jv is made up of only 8 graders", must be 8 min qtrs. I could not find anything about jv just being 8-10, only thing I see definte is 8th graders can not play at varsity level. I find it hard believe it is not written that 11th or 12 graders can not play on a jv team. Can anyone provide a link to clear this up?

When I played (late 90's) it was limited to 8-10 by rule in 1A. I believe 2A & 3A could have juniors on JV back then.

Brag all you want WC rumor out this week. All those WC kids will be Colonels or Red Devils next year. After the closing of WC after this school year.
