MSU is at a critical point and now is not the time to bring in a rookie. Byrne is 17ing up if he goes this route.

How many times are you going to post this? We get it. You don't like Mullen or Wilson. ...And you're a retard. Getting one of the top two OC's in the country isn't a loser-minded pick.

Ill take loser picks if they turn out like Bob Stoops, Mike Leach, Mark Mangino, Mark Richt, Bo Pelini.

who else is he supposed to go after? You gotta give a coach a shot from somewhere. And honestly, we've been turned down from a couple of good offers we tried to get. Those two are still pretty good options, so what else are you expecting?

We haven't reached that point. Since when did hiring the offense coordinator from a team playing in the BCS Championship turn into a loser pick. Sorry, but if LT was running the show when Croom stepped down, Little Dooley would've been announced last Monday.

Hey, just so we're clear on this issue, could you start another post about your opinion of us hiring Wilson or Mullen? You know, just to clear the confusion created from the first 15 posts...

hire a proven coach! We suck again and aGain. Let's get a coach who has won at the highest level, consistently, and put him to work! Anything less is a crap shoot at best and worse than Croom at the worst.

all thing taken into consideration, David Cutcliffe was named assistant coach of the year while OC at Tennessee in 1998. A successful OC does not necessarily a head coach make, much less an explosive offense.

David Cutcliffe is doing a pretty good job with the Blue Devils. The last time they had 4 wins was in 2003. After that it would be 2, 1 or 0 wins. If he gets 5 or 6 wins at the least with them next year, will he still not be considered a good head coach? Getting 4 wins at Duke your first year is a pretty damn good job I think.

I may have only been on this board for about 8 months now but there have been a huge influx of new idiots on here since the coaching search.

I know Duke has been bad for a long time, and four wins is more than they've had in some time.

But in that same vein, when I think of Cutcliffe, the "offensive guru" and "quarterback developer," I'm thinking about how his coordinator abilities translated to a head job in the SEC. For the most part, the ACC was pure **** this year. The title game came down to No. 18 BC and unranked Virginia Tech (or was it the other way around?), and now the Orange Bowl is VT vs. Cincinatti.

Meanwhile, the SEC title game match No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the country, and No. 2 lost to a conference foe going to the Cotton Bowl. There's more quality coaching and talent, top to bottom in the SEC. So comparing the job Cutcliffe did at OM and what he's done in one year at Duke is honestly apples and oranges.

I want to see what he does the next couple years. If he gets Bobby Johnson-type resutls at Duke, I will retract by belief that Cutcliffe couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. But until then . . . .

I like the offenses they run and I would think they would bring that type of offensive success with them somewhat. They would just have to get a good defensive coordinator and let them do their job. Croom did that and it worked, his problem was he brought an offense that didn't work. Croom's defenses were good enough to get us to bowl games.

He was the most successful coach Mississippi has had since Vaught.

I think most MSU fans would be pretty happy with that. Look, it would have been great if we could have hired Petersen, but it didn't happen. Forget it. Look what Texas Tech has done by hiring an OC. Heck, Georgia's current head coach was an OC when they hired him. Y'all just need to pray hard that we can get Wilson or Mullen as our next head coach.
