I'm not sure.

I'm not sure.

Doesn't really matter.

This weekend is going to go a long way to who will eventually be best of all time. Each guy will have a chance to get the most slams ever. Fed can’t let Joker and Nadal have this one.

Being a tennis player myself (currently unranked :D) I really love watching Federer, because he is so mechanically perfect in everything he does. But for all time greats you might have to think hard about Boris Becker.

Current young pups coming up I really like Rilley Opelka, as some of his playing style is what I like to do - in particular his serve volley and his drop shots - two weapons I use even though I'm a doubles player. On the negative side he has a tendency to miss the low skippers like I do - he has a good excuse though as he is about 6' 6" and it's really hard for a tall guy to get down for those balls.

Uh, no. I like Becker too, but he's not even close.
Federer's backhand is just un-freaking-real. It's hard enough to hit a good backhand, but to do it one handed and have the control that he does. :fire:

How the heck can you not stand Federerrereerrer? The dude is the epitome of class both on and off the court. He's a gracious winner, and more importantly, he's equally gracious when he loses.

Plus he married a gal that average joes like us would have a shot with. Very gracious of him.

Fed is the all-time greatest no matter what happens this weekend. 20 slams. Won them over 16 years. Won 6 wimbeldons in a row. 3 of those when he won 3 of 4 slams that year. All while playing against players who have the resume for being 2nd and 3rd greatest all-time. He is hands down the king of this sport.

Well, if he stays ahead in the slams count, yes. If he does not then it’s a no. And this weekend goes a long way in perhaps him being passed in the near future.

^^Oh, and Federer also had 12 slams by 2007 before Novak had won even 1 (First one in 2008)and Nadal had just 3. So, as Nadal and Djokovic truly entered the scene his production fell off. Novak and Nadal both won 15 slams since with Roger winning 8 more in those years. So, he beat up on other guys before these two came on the scene.

Something crawl up your womb and do your reading and posting for you, or is this an everyday thing? Yes, Sorena is the best broad. Would have won less in Graf's and Seles' pre-stabbing days, but would still have been the best. And likely would have become even more frequently enraged, smashing equipment like a gorilla in a Samsonite commercial (literally, not racially unless you took it that way, your fault if so), threatening to kill people, and then child-lessly shying away from her behavior while her elegant big sister looks silently on in shame. Those are the most fantastic things Sorena does.

Who the f^ck is Sorena?

edit: and what do you mean by "child-lessly?"

The game Sampras played is very different from today's game. Almost no one serves and volleys anymore. They play baseline, creating angles and then come in only to finish a point when they get a short ball or have a great angle for a winner. The spin and power today's players are able to play with (probably due to better equipment) has changed the game somewhat. Sampras was an all-time great but I think, in his prime, Fed is the better player. As someone else mentioned, Laver is probably the GOAT. If not for pro/amateur rules during his prime, he surely could have won 25 or more GS events. Won all 4 before his 6 year exile, then won all 4 again the second year he was allowed to play. He missed 24 GS events. He could have easily won half of them during that span. That would have put him at 23 and it's not a stretch to believe he would've surpassed 25 by winning another couple during that period.

But the pro/amateur rules that kept him out for a while also kept other top players out for times he did win.

But Federer's backhand is the very weakness that Nadal has been able to exploit so succesfully.

Fed's backhand can't handle high kick serves or heavy topspin groundstrokes that force him to hit high backhands. Nadal uses those very shots.

Five Wimbledons in a row, not six.

You could argue that when those two came on the scene, it was the next generation.

Federer dominated his generation like nobody else, then continued to be near the top for the next generation of players. Now we're in a place where it should be time for yet another generation of players to be taking over, but so far nobody has shown up to do so.

Not when the other guy in the convo for #1 consistently beats your *** like a drum on clay only.

Fixed it for you.

Nadal has a dominant record over Federer on clay, as he does with every opponent.

Federer has a winning record against Nadal on all other surfaces.

^Yeah, 15 slams each to 8 since 2007 says something. They almost doubled his total.

They're younger than he is. It should be no surprise at all that they - two of the greatest of all time - have more slams in their primes than Fed does in the time well after *his* prime.

What other player dominated his era, then continued to win slams, albeit at a lesser rate, well into his mid 30s?

Very close on hard courts.
Nadal leads both on clay (14–2) and outdoor hard court (8–6), while Federer has the edge on indoor hard court (5–1) and grass (2–1).

And they both have more time to get him in Slams and break other records he has now.

And in Feds prime Nadal beat him at Wimbledon in the greatest match ever played in the final.

Nadal is also the only man to win a major in 10 straight seasons.

And in terms of just a Clay court specialist, Sampras won 7 majors outside of Wimbledon and Nadal has 6 outside of Paris with a few years left. He has as many majors as Edberg and Becker do in their whole career on different surfaces than Clay (6). He also has been to 6 straight semi finals. Yes, clay court specialist but certainly holds his own on other surfaces.

He also won the gold medal on a hard court surface

I believe when its all said and done, Djokovic will have the record for grand slams. Not sure he wins this Wimbledon, but he will win more grand slams.

I've got the same feeling. I don't think Nadal will win another non French, though.

Nadal’s grunting is ******* annoying. I can barely watch his matches because of it.

His whole repetitive ******** before every point drives me nuts. Fed played a hell of a match today. Hopefully he didn't shoot his wad too early.

Fed has redefined what a prime is. Rafa has ONE non French major since he was 26. His prime ended well short of his 30th birthday. Fed is still playing world class tennis at age (almost) 38. People who watch Fed today are in awe of him - the 26 year old Fed would annihilate this version of himself. He's been around so long people have forgotten how great he was.

I didn’t check his birthday, I was going off memory and his current age.

My bad, I didn’t realize he has dominated the non clay majors so much in the last 7 years. Two is amazing.

Just making sure you state facts correctly. To try and denigrate his unreal career is asinine.
