The point is - if we’re utilizing a heavily run first oriented scheme, the significance of this flaw is mitigated substantially. Schiano has rightfully taken a lot of heat, but it’s also true that if neither Sam Brown nor NV get hampered by injuries - we probably would have had a 6+ win team. Alas injuries are part of the game but the ones we had last year were not ones we were positioned to be able to overcome. Not with Aaron Brown also out. Not with Wimsatt also injured.
Again - this is not an excuse for how bad the offense turned out. It’s simply a reminder that we were actually positioned to be middle of the road until we lost Brown. And that was without a healthy Noah. So even if Wimsatt isn’t a world beater, if our defense is better and our running game is substantially better we should be way more competitive. Unfortunately, the schedule is also harder this season so we’ll see what happens.
