I will change it to defense rather than DL- the only time the kid is leaning back is 3rd and long and obvious pass play. So, unless Rutgers is going to try to trick them with a run on 3rd and 7+ - it ain’t changing a thing. Did not see any difference in his stance on any other situation
Fair enough.
I AM NOT saying he's giving plays away(I have not watched). I AM saying it does happen. If you watch enough film on ANYBODY you will learn their quirks.

4th qrtr drive---hmmm. Pesky facts get in the way of the pre-existing I want to show I'm right narrative.

And as someone said, the coaches may very well be going over that in film review. It's one of the last things they would ever comment on publicly.

GW has to tighten up a few things-this is absolutely one. And I do think he will run a bunch next year.

The point is - if we’re utilizing a heavily run first oriented scheme, the significance of this flaw is mitigated substantially. Schiano has rightfully taken a lot of heat, but it’s also true that if neither Sam Brown nor NV get hampered by injuries - we probably would have had a 6+ win team. Alas injuries are part of the game but the ones we had last year were not ones we were positioned to be able to overcome. Not with Aaron Brown also out. Not with Wimsatt also injured.

Again - this is not an excuse for how bad the offense turned out. It’s simply a reminder that we were actually positioned to be middle of the road until we lost Brown. And that was without a healthy Noah. So even if Wimsatt isn’t a world beater, if our defense is better and our running game is substantially better we should be way more competitive. Unfortunately, the schedule is also harder this season so we’ll see what happens.

Anyone who watches and pays attention can easily figure this out. All QB’s are doing the same thing.

From spring game, and saw concern again today. Noticed it more against va tech than in prior games. May have to do w concern for rush as that was more pronounced than in the prior games. Have to assume Kirk works on it and were not pointing out anything opposing teams don’t see during film review.

It's also something that is done right before the snap which can be easily be seen from the sides. However, looking from the defense viewpoint, they most likely aren't seeing it all.

I just watched the "Every GW pass" video again, and I think this is much ado about nothing.
What little "lean" I can see is at/after the snap.
It's not a concern.
Any DL who tries to key on this will surely get burned on some running plays.
I was thinking the same- I would have to go back to the DVR though to see what he does with the RPO/run plays. Wonder if the lean is really because of being in shotgun.

I'm not sure if a player on D can do much when the lean happens but it may help the LB's watching the backfield on the RPO's.

It's absolutely occurring. Look at last pass as clear example. Whether a D can in the moment capitalize is a question. Don't recall the lean on run plays, but there isnt an every run play clip.

But it has improved from last fall and spring, and GW has improved in nearly all facets. Why it's unusual is you don't see that much if at all in college games. Since it's improved, it may have been something worked on in camp.

The LBs aren't able to see it. They are looking facing him with a lot of fat bodies in between.

Another way people try to be one up by saying “ see I saw that”. I’m sure Gavin has been told about tipping off the opposing team. He’s still learning and hopefully continues to improve. They used to ***** about Mike Teel when a soph and junior. Used ***** about Gary Nova…used to ***** about Mike McMahon. If these fan / scouts would just become Rutgers QB coaches think how great we would become.

They have these guys called coaches…
Haha. What are they calling them on the phone a second before the snap?? It's right before the snap. If players are looking at the the sidelines at the time of the snap they will be dead ducks on a run or pass!

So- it seems to be pretty normal. Just watched highlights and Drones was doing pretty much the same thing. sure pass play and he is leaning back and RPO/Runs- standing firm...

It's too late. He does it right at the snap. It's not like coaches are seeing a formation and yelling in before the snap. This is right at the snap. By then the defense is set up for zone, man or variation. That is what you don't understand. Yelling anything as the ball is snapped is like closing the barn door after the horses are gone. And the people who will easily see it are up in the booth not on the sideline.

I played OL & DL (high school) and if anyone yelled anything at the snap there is no way I would have noticed.
Completely focused on my job at that point.

Watch other QB’s just as close…on pure pass plays from shotgun, they are ALL doing it. Some with more experience may not lean as much but they all do it if you are looking for it. Non issue

All the bitching about bitching is too funny, but upholding the fine myopic tradition!

Are you the same guy who mentioned this in the middle of another thread?

If so.. or even if not.. why did you think it deserves its own thread that more obviously brings this to everyone's attention?

You have to admit as great as the fan base is at RU the bitching crew has always been there all the way back to late 70’s -80’s.I sat for many years in upper 40-45 yard seats along with several former Rutgers players from the mid to late 70’s… They were perhaps the harshest fans of all criticizing Schiano, and at times some of the players. Why did they dislike the guy? Schiano didn’t show them enough attention. Years later after he left and Flood screwed the pooch the real bitching started . Chris Ash became the topic of dislike . So this is how Rutgers is sometimes viewed . There are many other teams who do the same.
