Anyone every stayed at "The Beav's" Beaver Lodge in Winter Park, CO. Found some good prices there for a upcoming trip. Wondering if it's a dump or a decent, yet dated, place to stay?

Was there this February. We stayed at the Best Western Alpenglo Lodge in downtown Winter Park. It was clean and convenient (like most Best Western's). It is also the only national motel chain in Winter Park. I know of Beaver Village Condos (they look nice) but not Beaver Lodge. Most of the lodging in the town is condominium rentals and most of them are off the main road. We liked the closeness to the restaurants and bars at the Alpenglo. Not sure what your plans are but if the snow is heavy enough I recommend snow mobile rentals, snow tubing and dog sled riding. We had a blast. Winter Park is mostly a weekend place for Denver people so it gets crowded on the weekends.

Check out Iron Horse. It is at WP ski resort

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm interested in "The Beav"

We normally stay in the Village slope side at either the Zephyr Lodge or across the street at Fraser Crossing/Founders Pointe. We need a 2 Bedroom as we're a family of 5. Lodging usually runs us about $2500 for our stays. This year, we thought of trying something different because we got a good rate quote. We found a 2 bedroom at "The Beav" for 1/4 the price. It's 1 1/2 miles from the resort and an old lodge, built in 1940 but it's on the bus route. Just wondering if it's a decent family place to stay or if it's a dump at that price.

If it's a decent place, we may give it a try and use the savings to stay a few days longer. If it's a dump, we'll stick with our regular spot.

Beaver Village - I've Stayed There Many Times

Thanks for the suggestion but I'm interested in "The Beav"

It's been a few years since I was last there, but when I went, it was with a church trips when there were fifty to eighty kids and chaperones. For something like that, Beaver Village is perfect.

They have a main lodge and they have bunk houses about 200 yards from the main lodge. I've never stayed in the main lodge, but it looked rustic - like a typical ski lodge. Probably ok.

The bunk houses (at least that's what I called them) were like prefab hotel rooms. Main hall on first and second floors, with about six rooms on each side. The carpet crunched when you walked in those rooms. If all you are looking for is a place to crash, you're probably ok inside the room. The wild card is what other kind of guests are at the lodge. If they are idiots, you'll know it because the walls are paper thin.

The food, which normally comes with the room, was good to me, but I'm not terribly picky.

You are relegated to riding the shuttle to the slopes, which is not a hardship, but it's not as easy as the SISO lodges like are mentioned above.

If it were me going back, I wouldn't stay at Beaver Village because I'm older, crankier, and able to afford something else now. If I was younger and didn't care what the accomodations were like and wanted something cheap and functional, I think you will find that Beaver Village meets that low threshold. I'll say this: if your wife is going, get into the lodge at Beaver and you'll probably be ok. The bunkhouses are OUT if a woman is involved - there will be no end to things for her to complain about.

Good to hear! We're all booked and ready to go! Personally, I like the way it looks in the photos online. I've slept in MUCH worse conditions! Think it will be nice. My only concern is the wife. She won't be able to walk downstairs for Starbucks in the morning. Guess she needs to rough it a little! I do like that we are in easy walking distance of the downtown area. Just a few blocks away from De Antonio's Pizza!

Thanks for the tip on the lift tickets. I'll look into it. We usually wait and buy them on site day to day. Get a NICE military discount that way.

I'm ready for some SNOW!

As long as your expectations for The Beav are reasonable, you are in great shape. The breakfasts are really good.

Winter Park is a great resort - best I've been to in terms of size, variety of slopes, and ease of getting on/off lifts.

Tell us us how yiur trip goes.
