The threads have gotten so long and are mixed with random stories and thoughts, what do you want to see in Starkville, and that can reasonably succeed. Also, what areas do you want to see developed.

My list:

1) See Cotton Mills become a reality. This would be a complete game changer for Starkville and the entire area. The retail/office space/conference center would be a much needed addition, and certainly upgrade that blighted area as you come to our campus.

2)Develop down Russell St and Lampkin from Cotton Mills down until the old Borden Plant, which will be nice once the new Grill opens and Tabor finishes renovating it.

3)Build a new city hall and police station between Main St. and MLK Drive, redeveloping that area

4)Continue upgrading 12 all the way from 82 bypass to 25. Maybe add a smaller grocery store in the shopping center where Corky's or the new Umi are located. Add any chain restaurants that want to come, but not too many.

5)See a nice, inside bar locate in the cotton district (in the old Grill building or tear down that God awful gas station across from the Deli and build there).

I can go on and on, but these are where I would start.

I want a burger joint. Christy's went to **** when they remodeled. 8 bucks just for a piece of bacon?

Starkville won't get either, but either would be a nice addition.

The woman who ran Christy's before the remodeling did not run it after, so that might have quite a bit to do with the suckage.

I'd also like to see the university campus develop in the direction of the city. Plus a good wings restaurant/bar. And a CiCi's Pizza.

down on old Highway 12 past the Texaco building that is on the same street as the jail and Mugshots. It looks rough on the outside but once you walk inside you will be surprised. Pretty good burgers.

I think the Cotton District would be a great place for a upscale sushi place- like a Nagoya.

Another thing that I think would be good there would be an authentic cajun restaurant- which would probably force Rosey Baby's to either step it up or close. There's a place in New Orleans that I like called Deanie's- they specialize in seafood platters and crawfish. A place like that would probably work, and the thing about it is, New Orleans = party, which would kind of fit in with the other bars in the Cotton District.

I prefer the cajun restaurant over sushi.

Five Guys is without a doubt an amazing burger chain. I absolutely love it.

Maybe I have spent too much time in Austin, TX visiting the gf
but I want a good Burrito place.. Chiptole is the national brand, there is one in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.
Or Freebirds is better quality, and started by an Aggie, but only located in Texas/Oklahoma.
Crazy thing, there is a 3rd guy just starting up in Austin, tx with a place Cabo Bobs that is a USM grad, and wants to bring
his version to Mississippi or so he said when I talked with him when I visited. Their spill is no high Fuctose corn syrup in anything,
including the drinks, he gets the old style drinks still made with sugar instead of HFCS.

I'm sure Chiptole would be the most likely.

Someone also mentioned wings, besides the obvious of BWW
I would kill to see a Pluckers come to starkville, they are all texas except one locatiion in baton rouge.
Love the gigantic chicken tenders, and tons of sauce choices...and possible the best fried pickles I ever hade because they
do spears instead of chips..the recipe came from here in Mississippi too.

Taqueria del Sol in Atlanta - that would be a perfect fit in a college town.Great margaritas, cheap, awesome tacos, and good salsa. That's really it. Taqueria doesn't franchise, but it would be relatively simple to replicate.

All of these ideas/wishes have been solid. Talking to people around Starkville, especially those that have never spent much time anywhere else, all you hear is,"We need to develop the bypass real nice." Or they start talking about a mall or something. A surprising number of people are either opposed to, or oblivious to, the idea of developing downtown more towards Lampkin and towards 182 so that we actually have numerous functional, appealing blocks of retail, restaurants, bars, etc. If we can work towards that, along with an effort to connect downtown with Russell St (new Grill location will help with that), then I think everyone will be very proud of what we end up with. If we start developing the bypass, then we will look like Northport, Alabama and continue to be the worst SEC town.

Bypass development is obviously needed and is perfect for hotels, Cracker Barrell/IHOP type places and industry. However, the establishments college students and residents that want more than then chain experience desire need to be much closer to campus in the areas you've described. This is an important time development wise for Starkville/MSU and it all starts with the Cotton Mills deal getting finalized.

My wife inquired into whether they would consider coming to Starkville because we liked it so much. They seem very specific about what they're looking for. I don't remember everything they said, but I think they said they try to always be at the end or corner of a shopping center. So, maybe if we get the development by campus they would open there.

Someone mentioned this earlier in another thread, but with the Hilton already there and its proximity to campus and the research park, that area would be ok for development. Made for chain restaurants and that type of thing. Key is what vorticity Dawg said, develop the Downtown(182-Main-Lampkin)/Cotton District/Russell Street corridor.

I suppose that could be their preference but the one by me is in a stand alone building. I think a Chipotle would do very well in Starkville. Anything to break up the monotony of chicken and sandwich joints would be welcomed with open arms.

but I don't really see how 5 Guys, CiCi's, Chipotle, BW3 or any other chain restaurant betters Starkville in any way except having another option to pick up dinner on the way back from Wal-Mart. The Cotton District and the area around campus is not a place for national chains. It is a place for locally or regionally owned establishments that add to the character and personality of the area. If what you think of when you visit another city/town, or what you miss about a place you have spent time is a damn Red Robin or Hooters, I don't want you contributing to Starkville.

I agree about the chains unless it's the best thing ever. Locally owned flavor is what I want too, even if we have to go steal Abes, Anthony's, or the Louisiana Lagniappe.

What we really need is a lunch style place like a raising canes or cici's in the cotton district. Also a more upscale restaurant like a longhorns would do great in the old grill building.

we really need another chicken tenders place to go with Abners and Zaxby's, and another pizza place to go with Pizza Hut, Papa John's, Domino's, Old Venice, and Stromboli's. Let's do that.

At this point I can't tell if people are serious about CiCi's or just making fun of FDawg, or whatever his name was.
