I pick Carlos Thompson, we needed a speed end last year and we had nothing. Their are certainly higher rated names than him and guys that have produced more, but a ton were msu - om battles and they simply haven't worked out in om favor in the last 3 years. From everything, I hear and it isn't a lot, I think Carlos has and is working out very well and we could always use guys on the dline.

..but considering how god-awful the OM OL is going to be, MSU fan still thinks Russell could deliver OM 5 wins?

But put Russell behind MSU's OL, which is 10 times better than OM's, & you have giant threads here arguing over whether MSU is going to go 6-6.

He's a young kid who appears to have a tremendous upside, and we can always use improvement on the OL.

For them, well I'm sure they'd like to have any number of our players this year. I think it would be hard to pick just one.

I would say Ward. If he had stayed in school, I would say Brassell.

What are their biggest weaknesses? Going back a few years I would say they should have hated to miss on Charles Mitchell. He was from just down hwy 6 in Clarksdale. Obviously Russell would have been a nice pickup for them. Gabe Jackson would be a nice plug on the o-line, and Whitley would be an enforcer in the secondary.

Russell was from a very pro State family so he was never going to go to OM anyway. We need a mean as hell young nasty DL and Quayalong Ward would start us on that path.

Moncrief jumps out as the one guy we know could have contributed last year.
Brassell would have been nice to have on D, but no reason to think he would have turned out much better at State, and that's not exactly a need for us.
I thought we had a huge void at MLB that CJ Johnson could fill, but looks like he may be more natural at DE.

But with all that, if they have a OL, especially a tackle that is SEC quality and is ready to play this year (or would have been ready last year), I would take that.
After that, a pass rushing DE that would have been ready to play last year would be my second choice.
Moncrief would probably be my third choice.

For them, I'd take Dak Prescott. I think their OL has too many holes for one player to fill, but Dak could at least provide them a qb with 4 years of eligibility. As a second choice I'd probably take our best lineman that's a sophomore or younger. Not sure who that is. Maybe Clausell?

They should probably take Perkins just so he'd stop making their defense look like they're stuck in cement.</p>

We really should'nt be where we are on the OL. That's my one big gripe I have with this staff. They have not done a great job bringing in OL's early and often enough. I know they missed on some JUCO guys but we should have more depth than we do.

The first year they were basically trying to hold together and add to a class we already had. It was too late to really get in the game on any good OL. The second year they screwed up. Mullen needed to land a couple of ready to play Juco OL to fill in the holes Crooms left. He got zero. Had he gotten a JUCO tackle, it probably would have swung the Auburn game, and maybe the USCe game.

We needed some JUCO OL this year, and he got two. We'll see if they come through. It worries me that Siddoway hasn't locked down a starting OT spot; we need him to be good.

But after this year, we'll be in good shape on the OL. We may have some weaknesses where we have missed on evaluations, but we have enough OL in each class that we shouldn't end up in a situation where we just don't have an SEC quality lineman and have to rely on guys a year or two before they're ready.

the past three years outside of Masoli. At the very least he would give you stability and something to build around. I think Russell not beating Relf out had more to do with our system than anything.<div>
</div><div>Quay seems to be a popular choice but I will beinterested to see how much he cracks out rotation this year.</div>

but I'm not sure I want him on my team and Ward certainly looks the part but I have heard he isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer**

the guy. time will tell but i think he's a real sec Olineman. for us maybe jonathan banks. we've got a lot of holes and dback is oneand he's the best player you have. many say russell. he's going to have to actually start and have some success before i would choose him. banks has proven himself. channing ward also comes to mind for you guys but again he's not done anything yet. morris has shown he can play at this level. still needs to develope but he's shown he can do it. as far as brassell, no reason not to want him., he's not a bad kid he's just lazy about going to class. if as is claimed he's figured out he can make real money only by getting off his duff, i think he'll be back in january and we'll be glad to have him. he may be the best athlete with most nfl potential of anybody on either team.

I'm suree that if the whole season is designed on TR he see's more plays that are in line with his capabilites.

The defense is strong on it's own.

quay goes down, we can manage. TR goes down and our whole offensive mindset changes.

RB is the same thing as Quay. One goes down and MAYBE we change our offense to suit that, but maybe not.

All 4 would challenge for starting positions anywhere in the sec.

Recruiting be damned. Sure it matters a bit. But coaching is the key to winning the egg bowl.

Tyler was better than Cooper
Sloan was better than Tyler at the time.
Bellard was better than Sloan
Brewer was better thank Bellard or Felker
Sherrill was better than Brewer
Sherrill was about the same as Tubberville
Sherrill was better than Cutt at the time, but worse given the probation.
Cutt was better than Croom
Croom was about the same as Orgeron
Nutt was better than Croom
Mullen was better than Nutt
Mullen and Freeze....we'll see.

I think he turns out much better at MSU. Brassell, in part, was a product of Houston running a 2003 Jackie-esque asylum. This kids are greatly influenced by their coaches. Look what Mullen has done with Quay Evans, a guy that has been ridiculed mercilessly by rebel fans for being a thug and dumb. He enrolled EARLY.

your pick But Carlos has been a major disappointmentfor the rebs. Their CL beat writer picked him as the #61 most important reb for upcoming season. In 11 games across two seasons he has one sack, against Louisiana-Lafayette. According to the CL, problem has been his ability to addany weight. Thompson has always been slight, even if he is listed at 250 pounds on his 6-foot-4 frame.

and I was going to try and find somebody from 2008-2010, but there is none essentially. Moncrief and Brassell are the type of guys who maybe could have made a play or two for us last year, even though they are young.<div>
</div><div>As far as Ole Miss, we act like they were so horrible. Maybe they are now, with all their attrition, but that Jacksonville State game really rocked them. They somewhat recovered, but their D was soft. A dominant force like Boyd or Cox could have curbed that. Last year, had they not choked against BYU, and let's say they finish off Arkansas, things look much different. Can't judge much by those last few games when they got stomped after the coach quit (what a stupid !%$$#!% move, thanks Boone). That did kill their spirit, though, and will likely spill over to this year - they'll drop a game they shouldn't, maybe even UTEP now with the news on Charles Sawyer.</div>

among other things.

He went where he should have. They used him like they said they would. Problem is, they didnt make sure he'd be a student in year 2. AND THAT IS TRUE FOR MORE THAN ATHLETES.

UM is all about the short term image. Allways will be. If they had to answer for year 2 or graduation rates, they'd have no leg to stand on.

But they dont.

Never a truer statement has been made. Unfortunately many in this country subscribe to that line of thinking.

Freeze is hopeful that he can come back at some point, and they do have time (redshirt decisions don’t have to be until after week 3) to see how Moore progresses.
Redshirt decisions don't have to be made until the season is over. You could plan to redshirt a player and then play him in the last game if you needed to.

If they lose Sawyer for the UTEP game, that will hurt them. Otherwise, with their early schedule, I don't see how his injury will make any difference (assuming his recovery goes well).

Moncrief is a beast and I consider him the one player they would hurt them the most. He would be great in our system.

I think Ladarius Perkins would be their pick up. That is a very thin spot for the Rebs.

Regardless there are a lot of players that could make a difference in the opposite systems.

BTW moncrief was theirs since he was in diapers.
