With the football staff complete, what grade do you give them?

...but I'm going with low B. Mullen hit some home runs (Hudspeth comes to mind), but to loosely quote Charlton Heston in True Lies, the selection of Torbush didn't exactly blow my skirt up.

In comparison to what we had last year: A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

...Tony Hughes addition was an A, Hudspeth was an A, Matt Balis is an A, Hevesy's addition was a B+, Knox was a B+, Les Koenning was a B, retaining Melvin Smith was a B+ (A for recruiting, and B for coaching), retaining Reed Stringer (as long as he is kept the <17> away from special teams) was a B-, and retaining David Turner was a B+. Carl Torbush can either be an A or an F, it is up to him. Either he gets the fire back, or he doesn't. It is obvious his fire was doused with a big bucket of water, when he was fired as Head Coach at UNC. He had known nothing but success before then, so his self image took a huge hit. Has his 2 years going back to "Mother" at Gardner-Webb helped? We shall see.

Torbush was at Carson-Newman.

I like the Torbush hire better than most of you do. Not blown away by it at all, but he's a better coach than most of you give him credit for. He had a lot of good defenses at Mississippi, North Carolina and Alabama. We could have done better, but we could have done a lot worse too.

And a lot of you are going to have a severe adjustment to reality when you find out that Mark Hudspeth isn't the best thing since sliced bread after all, no matter how big of a man-crush you have on him. I think he's a good hire, but no 17ing way I give that hire an A.

Not sure what kind of hire would require an A. But hiring a positions coach that was currently a head coach from a consistent successfull D-II (or whatever they call them now) school, who also happens to have been an offensive coordinator on a national championship D-II team.

Pretty good in book.

I get it a B, would have been B+ if we retained wilson, that sucked, but we're better off in the long run. He obviously wouldve bolted eventually

Division II is closer to 5A HS ball than it is to the SEC. If he'd done anything at even the Div. I-AA level, I could see giving Mullen an A for that hire (there's a huge gap between I-AA and II, bigger than the gap between I-A and I-AA). But for now, I can't give an A for the Hudspeth hire. I give it a B. It might turn into an A. But it might turn into an F.

The man is a winner everywhere he's been, NO MATTER WHAT LEVEL. Look at the facts on him. those don't lie. I'm not saying that we won't have some problems adjusting, but things can only get better. Sounds like some of ya'll are wanting Woody back. I for one look forward to the new regime. We have just the right mix of proven and up and coming coaches. The proven ones will set everything up and the young ones will be able to relate to the players. I like the hires and give them a B+ only because none of them have coached a game yet. It will be a success to me if we break the 70's nationally in all categories.

..........setback of some kind where we need to change coaches again.

I'm as concerned about Torbush as anyone else, mainly because of his last stint at Texas A&M. I just hope he's serious about this job at MSU and doesn't simply see it as a nice payday. It'd be nice to get the full effort and heart from all our coaches for once.

How could we have done better than Torbush? Give me a name!

Yes, he would have been expensive, but he's a heck of a DC, probably the biggest name out there this year as far as being available. I will admit that getting him may not have been very realistic.

I also thought that Rocky Long would have been a good choice based on what others have said about him.
