1. There are a lot of things I can handle. Quitting isn't one of them. We quit last night. And it wasn't the first time this season. That's on Mullen. Not even bothering to come out of the locker room after halftime is inexcusable. 17 the coaches and 17 the team. You all laid a giant **** on the field in Oxford and embarrassed yourself, the school, and the fans. It's one thing to get blown out, but it's another to quit and get blown out. The only 2 guys who played like they wanted to be there were Cam & Bump.

2. Coaches: Your gameplan sucked. On both sides of the ball. Only 25 rushes on offense? Against a team that hasn't stopped the run all season? The 3-man front aGAIN? It was worse than the aTm game, and that's saying something. Did you guys not watch film this week? Or were you just trying to see who could come up with the worst idea and go with that? Or were you more worried about eating turkey and dressing than Mississippi? And the ****** offensive gameplan rests with Mullen. I'm pretty sure Koenning came up with it, but I'm also pretty sure Mullen has to approve the gameplan.

3. Chris Wilson: 17 you in the *** with a hot branding iron. I hope your *** is drawing an unemployment check Monday morning. If not, Mullen should be put on notice. Your D is in a class with Torbush. This read-and-react, bend-but-don't-break ******** sucks. We let the opposing offense dictate to us. We've become physically soft in just 2 seasons. And the biggest cluster17 on the team is the DL, the position you directly coach. We're playing ****** Big 12 defensive schemes and concepts, and we're seeing the results. Our tackling is ******. The players clearly don't believe we can stop a semi-competent offense. We drop 7 and 8 so often it's ridiculous. Even in years when we've been really bad, the one thing we as State fans could hang our hats on was physical, nasty, hard-nosed defense. No longer with Chris Wilson in charge.

4. Mississippi whipped us at our own game. They physically manhandled us. They beat us up and punked us out. They were the bigger bully. There's no excuse for that ****. We're a soft team, on both sides of the ball. We're a soft D and a finesse offense. TR has been great for most of the year, but his skill set will never allow us to be the physical team we were with Relf. I hate it.

5. I love Perk, but he's not a between-the-tackles runner. Where the hell was Griffin? He needs to be getting the bulk of the touches. Instead, he got 1 touch and then was used as nothing more than a blocker & decoy while the game actually mattered. It blows my mind. Use Griffin to physically pound defenses. He's proven that he's healthy, so use him. He should've had enough big plays in the last 4 weeks to earn a bigger role, but he continues to be forgotten.

7. Where were the Johnsons? Pretty sure each only had 1 catch on the night. I know I'm on a soapbox here, but they've got to be a much bigger part of our passing game if we want to be successful offensively.

8. Teams have been making Nickoe their ***** for 5 weeks running. He's far from the same player he was prior to his Achilles injury. Is there any chance we could bulk him up and move him to OLB next season? Because if we try to trot him back out there at safety aGAIN, he's going to get torched all season. Teams have a ton of game tape on how to do it now. He also busted the coverage on the Moncrief's first TD in the second half. Banks played it like he thought he had safety help over the top of Moncrief, and no one was there. Then Nickoe comes flying towards him after it's too late.

9. TR was off from the start last night. When he wasn't busy forcing balls into double and triple coverage, he was sailing balls high. And we still threw 40 (officially 39, same difference) passes. ****** job of adjusting the playcalling by our coaching staff. Hell, Mississippi dropped 4 INTs before they got their first one. We should've gone run-heavy and/or gone to Dak for a series to try to help settle TR into a rhythm. Instead, we kept slinging it all over the yard.

10. I'd love to know how a team that struggles to stop the run has gotten almost everyone who's played them to air it out. We did it, LSU did it, Arky did it, etc. There's gotta be something on film I'm not seeing. That or Bucky made a deal with St. Peter.

11. Hats off to Tubby in the return game. He didn't bobble a single snap, then showed why he's our best return guy when he actually manages to make a clean catch. The only bad decision was one of the times he brought it out of the endzone, but that happens. Compared to how we played elsewhere, I can't *****.

12. Keith Andrews has a cannon for a leg, but it's about as accurate as a real cannon, too.

13. Banks stock has dropped dramatically in the last 5 weeks. He's gotten burned repeatedly. Moncrief took him to school last night.

14. Bottom line, we laid a giant pile of Dog **** on the fake turf at the Vaught. I'll be damned if I spend money to go to a bowl game to watch this ******** aGAIN without some serious changes. Players and coaches better have a serious soul-searching the next few weeks. We've got to figure out how to be that nasty, physical team we were the last 3 seasons.

To sum it up, we need serious changes as a program. Players need to give a damn about every play again. Coaching changes MUST be made. Specifically, a new DC, a real ST coach, and Mullen taking over the offense. Koenning is clearly a great organizer and teacher, but his gameplans and playcalling suck. We need to become physical aGAIN, on both sides of the ball. If we stay on the same path, we'll finish the season 8-5 after the bowl game and be a soft, shitastic game aGAIN next season. And I for one will find it hard to fork over the cash to travel to a bowl if Chris Wilson is still employed by Our State.

It looked as if we were trying as hard as we could to lose this game. I still say there may be something to the SEC wanting another bowl team, and we needing help with the NCAA inquiry on Redmond. Black helicopter, I know. But we did not look like anything from the prior week, we did not look anything like ourselves. I'm open to other ideas of why we looked as crappy as we did, when we had every reason to be fired up for this game.

Did y'all really use Nkemdiche's jersey as a doormat?

That wasn't the brightest move. I mean he lives on being fired up. Did that happen?

We were just making fun of your jerseys being too traditional. You guys are never gonna attract recruits with your own...gulp.....school colors.

I agree with all of this. I think people could eventually handle the loss, had we played our *** off.. but to quit, against Ole miss?? It's unacceptable! This is the turd that has been brewing all season, esp on defense. Our problems on the d-line surfaced in the very first game against JSU. They looked soft, and were soft, but nothing changed. No one even mentioned it. The defense has been porous all season. They haven't been game ready all season and have lost all their physical presence and aggression, on the field. MAJOR changes needed here!!!

Dan Mullen's credibility is in the toilet right now, especially with all the mumbo jumbo talk about beating TSUN and winning championships. But worse is his approach to fixing the main problems with this team. He spews the same **** about making corrections, but nothing happens. His style of offense will not beat decent teams in this league! We don't have the studs to make it work!

I was with you until this.....

It's hard to fix something like defensive philosophy in-season with the current coaching staff in place. You can try, but their philosophies and ideas will always come through. And firing coaches mid-season is generally considered bad form. Mullen fired Torbush for ****** D, so he deserves the opportunity to fire Wilson.

As for offense, that's ********. The whole purpose of the spread is to help eliminate a talent gap. We've seen flashes of what this offense is capable of against some of the big boys. We actually moved the ball pretty well and put up some points against LSU. And I think we're all in agreement that they have one of the best D's in the country. The only thing this offense is really missing right now is a Moncrief - a vertical threat to stretch the field. We're having to dink-and-dunk for the most part, which only works for so long against very fast SEC defenses.

My only real problem this season offensively is how we abandoned the running game in favor of a more pass-oriented offense. We essentially tried to be finesse after 3 years of successfully being a physical offense. We needed to do some things differently and be more "traditional" in the run game because of TR's limitations, but we still shouldn't be throwing the ball 35-40 times a weeks. Of course, some of this was a personnel issue. Griffin didn't really have the light come on for him until the last month. Perk also had a huge first half and looked like a guy fully capable of carrying the load. Due to that, we didn't really give JR or Milton extra snaps to help them develop. We also could've used Dak a little more often in the run game to give us some different looks.

I think Koenning is a good teacher and organizer. I actually want to see him stay. But he's not great at gameplanning or play calling. That's where Mullen excels, and it's why I want to see him take over the offense. Offense is still clearly his passion, so Dan needs to take the handcuffs off himself and do what he loves - run the offense and call plays. We'd be a better team for it.

The only thing

I sort of disagree with is about Chris. I expect us to keep him through the bowl. After that I expect him to be gone. I won't freak out if he is still employed Monday.

I could see that as well, Todd. But I feel that in order to make a quality Coordinator hire, sooner is better. It gives us more time to evaluate candidates and hire the right guy. If it were me, the first 2 guys we interview are Geoff Collins and Brick Haley. After them, I'd look at some up-and-coming DC types. Either way, the defensive situation is critical.

Excellent analysis. I honestly can't think of 1 thing I'd add. Plus Kate at the bottom makes this post all the more agreeable. Great post.

Well, I think the offense will change up again when Dak takes the helm. We certainly could have used a running Qb against Ole miss. In fact, if we had played him early in the 2nd half, it could have caused problems (at least initially) for their rushing attack, which was killing us. Playing Dak could have changed the momentum back in our favor..just long enough to get the team rejuvenated. Looking ahead, I don't think Dak will ever be the downfield gunslinger that Tyler is, but he is very much like having a tailback at Qb. That, without a doubt, could have helped us in many situations, in games this season.

It's obvious that we desperately need a big down field threat, but the problem is getting one, which we can't seem to do. I feel like our new batch of recievers will take more time to develop than most people anticipate. To become adjusted to the speed in this league, lots of actual game experience will be required. I hope I'm wrong but I think reciever production, next year, will diminish. I think we will definitely do a lot more running next season.

Yes, we quit several times this year. That makes me want to puke. If the coaches can't get us to go hard for 60 minutes, then we should clean house.

One small point

of contention. Ole Miss has actually been pretty decent against the run this year (much more so than v the pass), except for A&M, Texas, and to some extent Arkansas. LSU ran it 40 times for 3.8 ypc; UGA ran it 45 times for 3.3 ypc; Bama ran it 34 times for 3.7 ypc. I think we held 6 of the 8 SEC teams we played below their season average in rushing ypg. We were right in the middle of the conference in SEC-only play in both rush yds allowed (137 ypg) and ypc allowed (3.7). And despite the Texas debacle still finished in the top 30 nationally in rushing yards allowed per game.

I think you're right about the offense changing again with Dak.....

However, I disagree about him as a passer. He's clearly got the arm to do what's needed. And he's made a couple of pretty sick throws this season. I have no concerns about him throwing the football downfield. The difference will be that we'll be more balanced and his threat as a runner should open up some easier throws. I'm really looking forward to the offense with Dak at the helm. I think he's the true dual-threat guy we've wanted ever since Mullen got here and will open up the whole playbook for us.

I think you'll see a big jump in WR play next season. Brewster is apparently one hell of a coach. We should see an improvement in route running, which leads to getting open faster. Plus, you've got guys like Malcolm & RoJo who can beat anyone. If Brewster can get Morrow ready, we might finally have the deep threat we're missing. Tubby has the speed to be a deep threat, if he can catch it. I still don't know why we haven't at least tried to hit him on a fly a few times to stretch the D. But we're definitely going to miss Bump, Smith, and Clark. Honestly, I think Clark has been our best all-around WR the last 3 years.

I hope you're right about running more next season, though. OL & RB should be the strength of next year's team, assuming Gabe comes back, so put the game in their hands. Use Griffin & JR to pound it between the tackles and use Perk to the edges and as a receiver out of the backfield. If we're still throwing 35 times a game next season, something is terribly wrong.
