After watching the game, it was an improvement over the last 2 games for sure. However, the last 2 games were far below where WVU should be at this point. So while I'm glad for the win and not continuing the disaster of the last 2 games, the big picture is still that WVU is behind schedule.
Line seemed to block better and Leddie playing down hill seems like a good play.
Leddie looked good as lead blocker on the 2 jet sweeps.
Doege still manages to put up good stat lines, but look average on the field. He did make 2 great plays on roll outs from pressure to find Esdale and Ryan. He also was lucky to not have been picked on the first drive. Another play he missed a completely open WR dragging across the middle only to throw an uncatchable ball to Leddie. I will say he didn't take unnecessary sacks and did make a few good decisions to throw the ball away.
WR didn't drop any easy balls.
Defense gave up yards, but made the plays when WVU really needed them. Keeping their RB to less than his usual was big for the D line.
So, ultimately a step in the right direction. But still climbing out of a hole this team never should have been in to begin with. This is also possibly just an aberration unless the team can continue it this weekend. ISU is certainly no juggernaut and we have them at home after they beat a top 10 OSU. No reason WVU shouldn't win or be in position to win until the last possession.
