but I was errantly thinking for some reason that we didn't win in 2008 which would've made it 2 in a row.

with argentina, brazil, holland, and spain. i'd throw england in there, but i don't like them. that's not to say one will definitely win it, but you can feel pretty good that a large portion will reach the later stages.

cameroon could be a surprise.

us out in the round of 16 to deutschland.

but am too lazy to look up, is that they don't strictly account for the plethora of public viewing numbers. in countries that are not the united states, this can be quite a significant number, especially as they are growing in popularity.

The Ivory Coast is screwed without Drogba. From the video he either had a fracture dislocation of the elbow (radial head and coronoid fracture) or a supracondylar humerus fracture. Neither one of those is amenable to quick recovery. I don't buy the BS that he will play.

In addition to public viewing and viewing parties (anytime more than a few people are watching one screen), it's pretty tough to get viewership numbers in some parts of the world. Even in the US, where we think we've gotten it down to a science, there is a lot of gray area and good deal of fighting over ratings and whether they are really reliable. Especially with the advent of DVRs and internet viewing.

Last year, the Super Bowl had just over 100 million viewers in North America (not just the US, but Canada and Mexico too), but only about 10 million outside North America. About 115 million worldwide. If we say the World Cup final had about 260 million viewers, that's dwarfing. Not to mention the 63 games before it.

Not to be a pissing match between two sports, the point being that, yes, the Super Bowl is big here, but here isn't everywhere.

I think he is prone to dramatics. T.O. didnt sit out of the super bowl and Drogba won't miss the Cup.
