I was not there for the World Cup, but I stayed in the same Monterrey hotel this past week as Team Tunisia. For whatever reason, they loved hanging out in the lobby in full uniform.

And now I find out that this team fired its coach.

So perhaps I am a bad luck charm for coaches - a "cooler," so to speak. Does anyone have Matt Rhule's vacation itinerary?

Ain't no shame in liking sports. You do what you like. Golf should be good this weekend if Clark can come back to the pack
Chances are he will because he hasn’t been in this position before. But you never know sometimes you just play a magical 4 days .

It won't happen but if the US Men won the World Cup...how mad would the women be because of the huge celebration that would come with them winning it all?

They would immediately lose their minds. Then the Super Simps would join in to support the women and hate on the men.

I would literally LOVE to see all the drama unfold.

I still think soccer players are grass fairies but they are in excellent shape with all the flopping being barely hit most of the time.

Yeah, we all know soccer isn’t a real sport😛

But who’s going to win it this year?
How will the US team do?
Is anyone going?
How can something so unimaginably boring and silly become a cultural phenomenon? Soccer is a healthy and fun sport to play. But from a spectator standpoint, it could be the worst sport of all time. The outcome of any game is more a matter of pure luck than any other sport. Jesus, you have a sport where a team like the USA with all of of their resources and population only can manage to beat Paraguay 4-1. In basketball, we’d beat Paraguay 193-12. The very nature of the sport guarantees a close game 90% of the time. It would be like every football game ending 7-3 or 10-7.

It is totally designed to keep things close. The made up off-sides calls, the fake rules with yellow cards. When/if a team gets a "free kick" or not.

Then soccer "fans" have to create this weird idea that there are different styles of play when it is literally a sport with no plays. I used to hear all the time how the Brazilian teams would play such a free flowing game and the Germans would play such a controlled game. But it is the same. There is no difference.

Although it's not my thing, I don't like to knock the World Cup because I'm glad people enjoy it.

But soccer has been right on the verge of captivating American sports fans since Pelé joined the New York Cosmos in 1975.
In 1977 I participated in first ever soccer match between two Lincoln High Schools. Lincoln High at LSE. We, LSE, lost 2-1, but it was close 😉. This was a "Club" event and actually made the Lincoln papers.

I tried to like it, I really did try. I tried again in 1994, even knew some names, especially Brandi Chastaine! I have regressed to where I know zero names on either team, unless Rodman's daughter is on it.

I tried, really did, but it is so damned boring unless you are playing it yourself, that it never has stuck. I hate to admit that I know more about WNBA than I do kick-ball, even though I kinda played 49 years ago.

Boring.......
