I'm not looking to give Mike Tomlin an out but I will say this about coaching in the NFL, it is very difficult if not impossible to discipline or reign in an unruly player or group of players. Today, the fear of negative PR has handcuffed a head coach or GM to the point where they keep turning the other cheek. Yes, Tomlin lost control of the Pittsburgh Steelers two, maybe three years ago. But I for one see him as a victim of a changing society where heavy handed authoritarian methodologies are no longer tolerated. Does anyone here think that Tom Landry feared Roger Staubach or would have hesitated to throw any athlete off the team? Coaches like Chuck Noll, John Madden and Bill Walsh had absolute authority over the team. Today the pendulum has swung too far in the opposite direction.

Joebot is a clown who makes stuff up. It is well known that GM Colbert and owner make final decisions on drafts.
The Rooney's choices of offensive coordinators since Arians have been questionable.

So some history on Franklin. Only one of six head coaches to lead his team to bowl games in his first nine years. 67% win loss record despite death penalty sanctions at PSU(69%) and coaching at Vanderbilt. Paterno lifetime 75 %. No Vanderbilt and no sanctions.
