Worst/best excuse someone has used to ask you for money?

Let's hear 'em.

The ones that I have heard aren't too elaborate. A guy walked past me at a strip mall and tried to explain that his car had broken down a few blocks away and his daughter was still at the car. Another time a woman walked right up to me while in the bread aisle at Kroger and started crying, and saying that she was on her way to a home nurse job, but didn't have enough gas to get there.

The best sign that I have ever seen was held by a young white guy in Philadelphia. It said, "Spread some cheddar on this cracker?"

This one time I had a girl tearfully come to me with some sad story about how her laptop was no longer working and she needed $1,200 for a new one so she could complete her last semester of college. I was like, “listen here....I’m your father, not your personal ATM you can use every time you need some cash.”

Shot her down, big time! Taught her a valuable lesson, the little parasite.

To buy apartment rentals that he would manage in return for our down payments investment that he didn't have. We did.

Good job sending her to the computer lab for which her tuition paid. It teaches them to use the resources that they have to achieve the goals they desire. Some real MacGyver stuff there.

A guy in Indy rolls up and says "Gotta feed my kids", who happen to be in the back of the car.

So my wife gives him $10 bucks. Then we see his car trolling the restaurant across the street.

I had a guy ask me for a ride so he could go to Kroger and return a jug of Tide once.

and I had a guy approach me while I was going to work at 11PM and tell me about how he ordered a pizza for his kids but didn't have any money to pay for it. He said if I paid for it I'd be his kids favorite uncle. No.

And literally the next morning when I was leaving work (I worked the overnight shift at a hotel) and asked me to buy him a tank of gas. And he pulled the whole "I stayed at the hotel last night!". When I said I didn't have any cash he said I could always pay at the pump.

Already mentioned, but the needing cash for their car at the gas station is used a lot around here. Especially in the North Park Wal*Mart parking lot.

There are/were two notorious panhandlers in LEX in recent memory. One was a guy that pretended to be very disabled, but I think he moved on to Louisville where he could blend in better. The other was a butch looking chick who had several back stories. One of my FB friends made it her mission in life to out her.

This is my favorite one. LOL. I too routinely order **** with money I do not have and then ask a complete stranger to pay for it.

Speaking of which, I've got some stuff in the cart from IKEA, if you wouldn't mind just entering your credit card number...you'd be the kid's favorite uncle.

Especially in the North Park Wal*Mart parking lot.

Once got offered a huge discount on solid gold chains there. I let that investment opportunity slide.

Also saw a guy out front at New Circle with the cardboard sign gig. An older guy came pulling up and screamed expletives at him until he had to stop blocking traffic. Dude just shrugged it off and went back to showing the sign to cars like it was nothing.

I used to work in Los Angeles and had a redeye flight home every Thursday night. I'd always get gas at this Chevron right outside the entry to the airport at 11 PM at night. Three weeks in a row I had a guy come up to me, show me a piece of paper with an address in Beverly Hills, and tell me he was a plumber that had a job there and he needed some gas money to get to the job. The third week I had to tell him that his customer in Beverly Hills has likely cancelled on him since he's two weeks late. He did not like that answer.

There are two corners in Lexington where you absolutely will see someone begging for money by no later than 8 AM every work day. One is High Street across from Bank of the Bluegrass, and where Jefferson Davis Inn was located and the other is across from the liquor store on Maxwell and Broadway, where the Rupp parking lot is located. I swear they must have a time clock somewhere to clock in. One day I was coming back from Versailles and saw the guy at the Rupp "work" station on Maxwell and it was raining and 45 degrees, but he was there as always. I mean, how bad must you hate work to stand in the rain in 45 degree weather asking for 50 cents and a dollar at a time? And if you are really that bad off, the Salvation Army is not more than 1/2 mile away if you need shelter and a square meal.

Sounds like that’s their job. He’s probably getting 20 cars/people + an hour giving him $1 tax free. Not bad. Hell it may be more who knows

Not money per se but back when I was at UK my roommate and I were eating typical college dinner at the fine establishment called Fazoli's. As we were going to leave this hobo came up and started talking to us. He asked us how our food was and then asked where we were staying that night. I said well we had an apartment. He was like that's nice I am sleeping outside. My roommate awkwardly replies well the weather is pretty nice out tonight.

Exit stage left.

I've told this on here sometime through the years but it's worth repeating. About 15 years ago in Nashville, this homeless guy came up to my window and said "Can I get a dollar?" When I asked him what he needed a dollar for he started saying something then stopped and said "I ain't gonna lie, I need a drink." I started laughing and said "Well, at least you're honest about it." Then gave him 5 bucks.

I’ll always buy food for anyone who is legit hungry.

Otherwise if they’re panhandling with a cardboard sign, I figure they’re making a decent hourly wage

They have posted signs all over town asking us not to give to panhandlers, causes lots of trouble

On a roadtrip to Auburn one time I stopped to fill up and this guy bummed me for $45 so he could take his dog to the Vet.

Best to let nature take its course. Those who are too weak to survive must be left to succumb to the elements. When I see someone in really bad shape I make a mental note to come back later and rifle through their pockets.

In the late 90s a crackhead approached me in the parking lot of Burger King on Clay’s Mill Road. He was bald and skinny and kinda twitchy. He was wearing a dirty *** Cowboys starter jacket in July. He was holding a stack of (likely stolen) CDs. He offered me all kinds of deals on CDs for $10. I turned em all down.

Finally he hot fed up and said, “Can I just get $10, man? I got something I really need.”

I told him I didn’t have $10 and drove off as quick as I could. I was in high school at the time. It was my first encounter with an adult crackhead. It was scary, sad and a little funny at the same time.
