I saw that on the sports, infield fly rule on a line drive?

I think they had the right to be upset.

It was aweful

I have never seen worse. I think the worst part is the home plate umpire saw it all, but didn't have the nuts to tell the 3rd base ump he was wrong. It was the worst call I have ever seen.

Still not as bad as double rather than home run call in the A's game. Those umps were pros and had access to replay and still missed it.

Rob Jay covered the play on WLBT as well. I was not at the game, but heard about it and watched the replays on both stations. This is one of the worst that I have seen for a game of this magnitude. Wasn't the only base runner on 2nd? The 3rd baseman knew he didn't catch it because he threw very hurriedly to first to try to get the out. I have been to a few academy football and basketball games the past few years and the officiating is always terrible. A lot of times it looks like the football refs have no idea of the rules. It always seems very sloppy, but maybe I have been removed from watching high school games too long.

I happened to have been at this game and was standing in perfect view of the play. Yes, runner on second, no outs. Batter hits a line shot to the third baseman, he takes his eyes of the ball for a split second, ball bounces off his glove and squirts just past him on the ground. Third baseman immediately grabs the ball from the dirt and make a rush throw to first in a effort to get the out at first.
Makes a bad throw and ball get past the 1st baseman. Second base runner (who has dove back to the bag in case the liner was caught) gets up and motors to Third. Runners on first and third with no outs (game is 3-0 Prep at the time). Third base ump reverses his immediate call on the field and calls the batter out (in field fly rule?, caught ball???), Prep wisely checks the runner at second and the ump (same one) calls the second to third runner out (said he did not tag)...............ump refuses to appeal and ask home plate ump, said he did not need to. Net result, no runners and 2 outs (from 1st and 3rd with 0 outs)

This was is the largest black eye to local officiating you can immagine and change the total complection of the game - it was over at this point.

One parent was ejected and Coach Lipscomb (third base coach) had to watch the rest of the game from the dugout. I told Lips wife that I would have gone to prison if I had been him...no way to contain the level of anger on what was blatantly a bad call....Lipscomb really handled himself with a great level of calm under these circumstances (and he still threw a fit!)

Infield fly was not the call made. Ump ruled that the third baseman caught the

ball and the runner at second was doubled up for not tagging up. Of course the third baseman didn't catch the ball and the runner did exactly the right thing.

That's a blanket statement that is highly unfair.

While some of the crews you have watched at times may have been sloppy, I wonder how many of the teams in those contest were terrible. Even veteran officials who study rules, attend clinics, ask questions and watch the officials at ball games to pick up a few pointers on mechanics, rules knowledge, etc., have a tough time officiating games in which either or both teams are horrible. It's especially that way in basketball.

In Mississippi, very few teams in this area (SW Mississippi) play good football and HS boys/girls basketball-public and private.

If you are going to judge, then look at the quality of play. Some of the other officials on this board will agree with me. Sloppy games = perceived sloppy officiating in most instances.

I don't know if I would go so far as to call Angel Hernandez a pro. Also, I think it was intentional due to what happened between him and Melvin the night before. Hernandez has been considered one of the worst Umps in baseball for a while now, but he's unionized so he isn't going anywhere.

A Jr. High or JV baseball game or basketball game is the worst punishment any official can take. A well played 6A semifinal playoff game behind the plate is far easier to call than a jr high game where the pitcher can't hit a house 10 feet from it with a ball and you are constantly getting bitched at because your corners are "inconsistent"

Shocker....MAIS refs are terrible in Jackson Prep's favor. News at 11. Story of my life.
