If the bears have a couple of early turnovers, can't stop the read option, the game gets out of hand, their team throws in the towel, their fans leave at halftime, and the team suffers an embarrassing loss to end an embarrassing season (similar to Croom's last game, and similar to Orgeron's last game in that it was embarrassing) - could we see a head coaching change in Oxford next week?

wouldn't surprise me if they do it again. Nutt's a good coach at an average school.
Just don't forget the real performers are the kids on the field. Head coaching jobs suck in that regard.

..maybethere will be an 'assistant coach's brawl' before game that may stir-up old prides and hatreds. I just can't see the incentives this year. mississippiseemed satisfied last week with feel good loss, and MSU? hey, if I ever saw a team backing into a bowl..I still cannot keep UAB out of mymind. We won't fire him after only 3 years. That would be beyond stupid.
That said, if we aren't going to win this game, I hope we allow 60 points in the process so that Nutt has no choice but to fire Nix.
If I had to guess, I'd say there is about a 70% chance Nutt keeps Nix based on the general feel I get. Keeping Nix is the worst thing that can happen to us right now, so if we aren't going to win, I want it to look as bad on Nix as possible.
If we don't win, I want us to lose 65-48, so that it's very clear who is the weak link.

We went 9-4 (4-4) last year with that offense. The defense this year has been beyond pathetic. Coming into this game we've given up 49 total points more than any Ole Miss team in history, and we still have another game to play.
If the defense was anywhere near as good as most people thought it would be this year, we'd be 6-5 at worst right now, probably 7-4, coming into this game.
The offense has had spurts of poor play, especially the first few games of the season, when the Masoli transition was slow. Outside of that, Bama shut us down, and Masoli had a nightmare game against UT when he looked like a player who hadn't practiced much due to a concussion the previous week. The offense has done their part though. The defense has been a colossal failure, and the lack of success for this season falls squarely on their shoulders, and more importantly Nix's. It falls on Nutt's shoulders partially because he made the mistake of hiring Nix, but now he has the up close and personal data. If he fails to make a change this off-season, then it falls on Nutt's shoulders for failure to fire him.
Nix won't stop the option this time around either. You know why? Because his style of defense opens holes for the option. Your front line doesn't even have to block that well. Just take the defender the way he wants to go, and we'll open the holes for you. That's what you did last year. Nix doesn't get how to stop the option. He doesn't get defensive assignments. His defense is the same every game. The only difference in his game plan week to week is how much he plans on stunting/blitzing, and how often he changes up the coverages. That's it. You don't play an attacking style against the option. One of the keys of the option is trying to take defenders out of the play without having to block them. With Nix's style, our defense will take one or two more players out of the play than you are expecting.
Watch Nick Saban's defenses against Florida and MSU. They have had really good personnel of course, but they play assignments, and they don't force the action. The game tapes are out there. It's no secret what you have to do. Nix can't translate it because he doesn't know defense.
