That’s tough, there’s a lot of competition for that title. Every dog had his day, pun intended.

The problem with the Arnett hire is that we should've conditioned it on him retaining the offensive staff for at least the next year. I know the typical policy is "let him bring in his guys", but truthfully Arnett didn't have "his guys". He thought he could pick better assistants than Mike Leach could and in the process destroyed what he was left with. Hubris was his fault.

Am I saying Spurrier Jr. was going to be a great long-term OC? No. But if Arnett retained the offensive staff and kept most of the players he'd have won at least five games, probably more.

You can't really blame Arnett. I think he did his best under the circumstances. He never should have been anything other than the interim to finish out Leach's last year. There was plenty of time to find a HC.

He did win 5 games. Only 1 was an SEC game, though.

Yeah it’s probably ZA. From the jump you could tell he was extremely uncomfortable in that role. And you could tell he didn’t have great connections personally to build a staff and had people in his ear telling him what to do because he didn’t know what the heck to do himself.

Also that 2023 roster, while not just great, still had a lot of experience and

I've been so traumatized by this team it feels like we haven't won more than four games since Leach.

At any rate, Arnett destroyed whatever good Leach left behind and was left scrambling at the bottom of the barrel for assistants. He had no history with the people he brought in on the offensive side and was more interested in making a mark than actually building a winning program. That team was set up for a great year has Leach lived. If Arnett could've swallowed his pride he would've easily been able to retain that staff and keep things going.

I don't know how great a year we might have had if Leach has not passed, but I will never understand how that transition was handled. Should have been total buy in from the staff to keep running an air raid based offense, or else hire a coaching search firm (since we didnt have an AD at the time).

Cant blame Arnett? What? He took the job, didnt he? Got paid millions. His arrogance is what got him & you can certainly blame him for that.

Like some1 else said, if he'd kept the O staff, he'd won more games. He actually thought he was smarter than Leach.

He's an average defensive coach and worst than Croom as a head coach. He shoulders all the blame.

Of course he took the job. But it should not have been offered after the interim period.

I agree & thats on the admin, but the wholesale changes made is on Arnett. That was all his decision. He tried to re-invent the wheel.
